Using your line of reasoning, only a moderate, or someone who speaks out of both sides of their mouth can win. In today’s political climate, only a moderate can be elected unless they have something special going for them (i.e. black) otherwise someone like Bolton is a no show politically

"In today’s political climate"Since the next presidential election is Nov 2012 (unless canceled), TODAY'S climate is totally irrelevant. I suspect 2012's climate, and even 2010's to be vastly different- and a whole new ballgame.
