Maxine Waters under scrutiny for bank ties
LA Times ^ | 3/13/2009 | Richard Simon and E. Scott Reckard

Rep. Maxine Waters, one of Los Angeles' most enduring liberal politicians, has come under scrutiny because of bailout funds that went to a bank in which her husband had owned stock and served on the board.

Waters was a senior member of the congressional committee dealing with the financial crisis when OneUnited Bank -- one of the nation's largest minority-owned institutions -- received $12 million in bailout funds.

Her husband, Sidney Williams, served on the bank board until early last year and held at least $500,000 in investments in the bank in 2007, the most recent year for which public financial disclosure statements are available.

A month before Congress enacted the bailout program, Waters helped set up a meeting between the chief executive of the bank, representatives of other financial institutions and Treasury officials.

"When a member of the financial services committee calls, you pay special attention," said Jeb Mason, who was a high-ranking Treasury official last fall.

Her defense.. she’s an “advocate” for minority banks.

Rep. Waters Fires Back at News Reports on Bailout Controversy

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/03/13/rep-waters-fires-times-report-bailout-controversy/

California Rep. Maxine Waters fired back Friday at reports by The New York Times and Wall Street Journal that revealed she helped steer millions of dollars in bailout funds to a minority-owned bank on whose board her husband served.

“Recent press reports have raised questions about my advocacy on behalf of minority banks,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “Ultimately, however, these articles only revealed one thing: I am indeed an advocate for minority banks.”

“Programs we need programs”-Maxine Waters

Interpretation. Programs to give us what we want as opposed to help us earn what we need.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Eric Holder won't have the JD open an investigation. The idea that a Democrat-controlled committee would propose a censure is a fantasy. She will play the race card from the top, middle, and bottom of the deck.

I remember a lot of prime Maxine Waters clips from Rush’s old television show. I wish somebody would put re-runs of those shows on television.

“And that is a far as it will go. . . I have seen this rodeo too many times.”

No kidding it took redistricting and an assault on a cop to get crazy Cynthia McKinney out!!

Dems are the most corrupt party ever! .

Who is going to see her indicted, Holder? I recall this B.... practically drooling over the manager of Fannie Mae at a Congressional hearing.

""Mr. Chairman, we do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac, and in particular at Fannie Mae, under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines. Everything in the 1992 act has worked just fine. In fact, the GSEs have exceeded their housing goals. What we need to do today is to focus on the regulator, and this must be done in a manner so as not to impede their affordable housing mission, a mission that has seen innovation flourish from desktop underwriting to 100 percent loans."

-- Rep. Maxine Waters (D) 9/25/2003"

Below is one of my fine, fine rants and it’s directed at every poster on this thread. To include those who pointed out about Maxine’s reputation as a riot-rouser, those who posted about Cynthia McKinney and even the fine patriot who lamented over the word REP appearing intentionally used to confuse the reader into thinking it means “Republican.”

Understand I chastise you all with love in my heart.

Y’all need to stop yelling about Maxine, McKinney, Jefferson, and not just the black Dems who cheat, lie and steal, we move to Barney of the male brothel, Chris Doud, and all the tax cheats on The Messiah’s cabinet.

STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM! Because the problem is NOT, I repeat, NOT them. They are doing only what greedy people with no morals do when left unfettered, which is, specifically, lying and cheating.

No, fine posters, the problems with these Dems who cheat and create faux economy-crippling mortgage schemes is NOT, I repeat, NOT their fault.

The fault belongs to....scroll down...

THE REPUBLICANS WHO LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!

Do not tell me, even though they sport fine tans and have head hairs that never move from their appointed places, that the pubbies in congress didn’t know what was going on with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Do not tell me, though their nails are polished to a splendid shine and invites to DC cocktail parties fill their mailboxes, that the pubbies didn’t know about Jefferson and his cold cash. Denny Hastert, for God’s sake, stood up in front of a camera to defend the guy and do not tell me he couldn’t have handled a sticky constitutional issue better than this Pelosi-arrange photo-op. Perhaps a letter to the Wall Street Journal?

Do not tell me, though their wingtips reflect their fine presence and the places across the aisle are filled with their “friends” that the pubbies didn’t know about the corruption and cheating going on, even if, a big assumption, they didn’t directly participate.

President Bush even tried to deal with Fannie and Freddie and where were the spit-shined tanned pubs to help their President out on this matter?

The BEST way to deal with corruption and political misdeeds in any governing body across the planet earth is...AN OPPOSITION PARTY!

We don’t have one.

But they have pretty tans, perfect head hairs and inhabit a DC filled with friends.

Maybe a pub could go on the talking head show and point out that bit about the deceptive word “pub”...maybe fight back or something, just to throw it out there.

Maybe the national head of our own RNC could not go on TV and participate in the demonization of a conservative talk show host on the radio, joining in with the Dems in the game.

I’m done.

I’m still mad but not at the criminals. Criminals do what they do. It’s when the good guys are in the tanning booths instead of watching the hen house that things go awry.

Why would anyone get in trouble for wearing bank ties?

Did the banks stop giving out toaster?

This post makes no sense to me... of course Maxine Waters makes no sense to me.

Yes indeed. We have enough race guilt here for them to get away with this crap over and over again. Not only is Walters running her mouth, but the NAACP is now claiming that blacks were FORCED to sign on to bad loans. This crap will never end until we stop taking it.
