HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A conservative activist who ran for Pennsylvania governor three times in the 1990s says she will challenge Arlen Specter for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year.
Peg Luksik, of Johnstown, said Tuesday she is not deterred by the prospective candidacy of former congressman Pat Toomey. Toomey, a fellow conservative who narrowly lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, says he is considering running in 2010.
Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. She says it's up to Toomey to decide whether he wants to risk dividing the GOP's conservative wing and allowing Specter to win a sixth term.

If Toomey is in, she needs to drop out. The last thing that needs to happen is to split up the conservative vote in what is sure to be a close and competitive primary!
To: maggief
does this woman actually have a chance? If not, she needs to walk away and let Toomey have at Specter.

If the conservatives cannot agree on one challenger to Specter, he gets in again.

We don't need a divided ticket! Anyone know anything about Luksik? At this point I worry about phantoms and spoiler candidates.

More proof the OP(formerly GOP) has strayed so far from conservatism that it has been reduced to a wing of the party. BTW What other wings are there?

An acquaintance of mine is a friend of hers.
Remember Outcome Based Education from the 1990’s? It was Luksik who was outspoken about this and other educational issues. If I recall, she gave many speeches back then.

With Toomey in, Luksik needs to withdraw.

Is Specter even running again? He’ll be 80 during this race.

Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. I hope this is true. The last thing we need is a divided conservative base.
Now... time to find a moderate to split the RINO vote. :)
Also, find at least two Dems so they have a primary as well. Otherwise Specter will get a bunch of them out to vote for him.

THIS will be a HUGE test for Michael Steele......if he gives ONE PENNY to Arlen Specter, he is finished.

This makes me sick. Finally a chance to bounce Specter and this idiot jumps in. She needs to jump back out. Wonder how much she’s being paid to split the vote.
Pat Toomey is going to be the speaker at the Franklin County, PA Lincoln Day Dinner on the 19th of March. Just picked up 2 tickets.

Not if Toomey told her he wasn’t running. Him changing his mind is his problem, not hers.

This is not the time for dividing the field against Specter. Toomey had the race stolen from him in ‘04 due to Democrat chicanery in the primary. Luksik deciding to get in after she knew Toomey was going to is on her head. She needs to get out, period.

Luksik says Toomey told her last month that he wouldn't challenge Specter. Unless this is a lie, it is Toomey who should stay out. If it is a lie, she needs to step down for being a liar.
