Scientists Helping FBI Solve D.B. Cooper Case
MSNBC ^ | Tues., March. 3, 2009 | CHRIS INGALLS

Posted on 03/08/2009 1:57:36 PM PDT by nickcarraway

A team of scientists is in town, helping the Seattle FBI do something it hasn't been able to do on its own. They're trying to find new evidence that will lead to one of the Northwest's most notorious fugitives.

Tom Kaye's casting with cash, which tells you this is ordinary fisherman on the banks of the Columbia River.

Weird science - that's probably the better way to describe the fishing expedition that's going on this week near Vancouver.

Kaye is hoping his experiment can help reel in one of the biggest catches of all: the Northwest skyjacker known only as D.B. Cooper.

"It remains the only unsolved hijacking in U.S. history," said Kaye.

Kaye is a member of a scientific team that is in Washington state this week helping the FBI unearth new leads in the 38-year old cold case. The hijacker, an armed passenger calling himself Dan Cooper, demanded parachutes and ransom before his airliner left SeaTac Airport.

Nearly nine years after his daring jump, a family on an outing found some of the ransom money along the Columbia. Kaye, a paleontologist who normally digs up dinosaur bones, said his experiment may tell him if the money floated ashore or was planted there.

"What happens to bones and how they get preserved is the same question we ask about the money: How did it get buried and how did it get preserved?" said Kaye.

The scientists will examine more evidence, like the necktie Cooper left on the plane, at the Seattle FBI later this week.

DB is likely living on an Island in the South Pacific, rolling in the surf with lovely wahinis as he lapses into old age.

That image is likely why they want to find him.

Oh fer gawdsakes already, is the FBI’s gargantuan ego in danger of being tarnished if they don’t catch “D.B. Cooper”?

But hey, why not just spend that cash on a Quixote-like investigation? Comrade 0bama’s illegal regime is emptying the U.S. treasury like a field trip of horny teenage high school kids set loose in a Chinese whorehouse with an unlimited AMEX card, so they might as well?

After they catch D.B. Cooper, I want the feds to take another look at Al Capone’s secret vault, I’ll bet Geraldo missed something.

Gary Larsen already answered that question.

Cooper landed at Ben and Vera’s rottweiler farm.

Think of this as research, they don’t really care about Cooper but they do care about developing new tools that may prove useful in the future.

Yes, I tend to think he survived the jump, but the funny thing about it is that the FBI keeps coming back to it.

And if DBs corpse was found with that bag full of money in the woods, it would take a mighty strong hunter not to pocket it and head south himself, after having a little bonfire out in those mountains.

That was quite a high altitude jump,One wonders still if DB made it.

You know the story.
Slowed the jet and got to a survivorable altitude. And gave the pilot the waypoints.

It all comes down to training. Was he just one of our Seals, special forces or whatever that our military trained for high altitude insertion?
If so he had a good chance.
Bigger cajones than I have certainly.

Well DB, here's to you ( one slug of single malt.)

Maybe one day we will learn the truth. But the mystery is fine .
