Why couldn't President Obama have put on more of a show for his British guests? He looked like he simply couldn't be bothered.
Number 10 may be content that they just about got away with the visit to the Oval Office yesterday, as Andrew Porter reports from Washington.
But on this side of the Atlantic the whole business looked pretty demeaning. The morning papers and TV last night featured plenty of comment focused on the White House's very odd and, frankly, exceptionally rude treatment of a British PM. Squeezing in a meeting, denying him a full press conference with flags etc. The British press corps, left outside for an hour in the cold, can take it and their privations are of limited concern to the public.
But Obama's merely warmish words (one of our closest allies, said with little sincerity or passion) left a bitter taste with this Atlanticist. Especially after his team had made Number 10 beg for a mini press conference and then not even offered the PM lunch.

That’s such a good way to “improve our relations around the
world”! N O T!
You know - he isn't, actually. Even if it's true and he was born in Kenya (and I confess I haven't been paying a huge amount of attention to that issue myself, though agree on principal, a person should be expected to prove their citizenship), that wouldn't make him a British subject. That term has to be one of the most misused I've seen on Freerepublic - it has a specific legal meaning and doesn't mean what a lot of conservative Americans seem to think it means.
Arrogant jerkwater.
I think Obama is bored with foreign policy and doesn’t care about it. He is all about his radical domestic agenda.
Its a psychological thing because Obamas father a Kenyen or more to the point was a British subject, and technically so is Obama.
water and oil, water and oil, what say we get clean up the oil?
But, but didn’t the Europeans think 0bama would be a wonderful president?
You got the ol’ boy figured out....very good.
I’m thinking the blackmail is not in the future tense but past and present.
I’ve worked in Africa. It is a genetic thing. They are born with a chip on their shoulders.
The Brits are Pro-American
Did he really send the bust back? Was it his to dispose of or was it given to a past real President?
If not hatred he would have no values at all.
Not only is Øbama pissing off Britain but he’s making Poland and the Czech Republic look like fools by abandoning the anti-missile shield. Why would any country ever again take our word for anything?
You are correct but again, the point is made? It is claimed he is a British Citizen.
Though I am feeling bad about the whole eligibility thing since he just appears too smug. Of course I have seen pathilogial liars who can play a lie and you would never know the difference.
If he is ineligible it can’t be a secret with so many people for so long. I do wonder what he is hiding though? Maybe he was born female or something like that.
This from the lefty Telegraph? I thought the Euroweenies were rooting for The Kenyan vs. McCain nearly a gazillion-to-one? Hmmmmmmm, I guess Kenyan is disappointing to more than just us!
The recriminations begin!
Imagine, being insulted when the Messiah doesn’t allow you an audience. Under the bus with you!
Oh sheeesh, what do the Brits expect, Obama has more important issues to take care of , like trying to demean Rush Limbaugh.
"Did I miss anything?"
The part about his white mother?
