Last time I checked, the majority of Hawaii Real Estate is owned by Japanese investors. They couldn’t take it over by invading it, so they were patient and took it over the easy way by buying it.

What’s Obama expected to apologize for now?

It seems to me that there has been a steady progression:

1940's -- The bad guys have armored divisions and battleships. They try to take over the world.
America out produces and out fights them across two oceans.

1950-1980's -- The bad guys attempt low-intensity warfare in many developing countries.
This works for awhile, but America under Reagan learns to figth back and socialism collapses.

1990-2007 -- The bad guys use terrorism as a weapon to slowly chip away at western dominance.
This fails spectacularly, and Iraq joins the good guys.

So, now the bad guys are waging economic war. They buy what they can, they damage the rest. And so far, it looks like this is how the West will fall.

Note: I like the Japanese and I don't consider them "bad guys". But they do show that simply buying what you want is often a better strategy than trying to take what you want.

Japan has been fighting an economic war since 1945. Whenever you hear of a foreign country having a "targeted" trading range for its currency vs the US greenback and racking up huge trade surpluses they are not our friends.

" ... by invading it, ..."

Just when did said invasion attempt occur?

He will probably apologize for the US’s economic waterboarding of Japan over Japan’s invasion of China which forced Japan to defend itself by a limited airstrike against a purely military target on a remote island base that the conservative, racist propagandists demonized as a “sneak attack,” and then apologize for the racist war that inevitably followed.

Sounds like a good thing.

Next stop, Nanking? /sarc

But the Pearl Harbor visit is a good step. Japan is a good nation but has had great difficulty accepting that it made some mistakes.

Um ... regarding the Aleutians.

Did the Japanese land troups and occupy any of those islands? Yes or No?

I wonder if he will be laughing, joking and taking pictures,
like the Japanese that were there when I visited.

Sort of like using diplomacy instead of war?
