The revolution will begin in Visalia and it will be led by a man named Maze.
As in Bill Maze, a termed-out Assembly member turned rebel who is pushing for California to split in two: the conservative interior as one state and the liberal coast as another.
"We're looking at establishing a breakaway state," he said, with a new government and a new capital. "We'd actually be creating a 51st state."
He is tapping into the anger of farmers and others who say environmental rules and high taxes are sending the state into a tailspin.
"Citizens of our once 'Golden State' are frustrated and desperately concerned about the imposition of burdensome regulations, taxation, fees, fees and more fees, and bureaucratic intrusion into our daily lives and businesses," declares downsizeca.org, the movement's Web site.
Under Maze's plan, 13 coastal counties from Los Angeles to Marin would split from the remaining 45 counties, which the Web site calls "the new revitalized California." To promote the idea, Maze has established a nonprofit group called Citizens for Saving California Farming Industries.
Meanwhile, Maze is selling the plan up and down the state, appearing on television and radio shows. With enough money and momentum, he hopes to put the question before the state's voters. According to the U.S. Constitution, Congress and the state Legislature would have to sign off.
Californians have tried to parcel the state 27 times before, with most attempts never getting far off the ground, said former Republican Assemblyman Stan Statham, who made the last serious attempt in the early 1990s.
The most famous secession movement came in 1941, when several counties in Northern California and southern Oregon tried to form the State of Jefferson until World War II intervened.

I was thinking just the other day how pleasant it would be to have a drink at the Flora-Bama and join the other patrons seeing how far we could all throw dead mullet across the state line.
“If I were dictator I’d have a top to bottom review of all levels of government, splitting up states and counties like nobodies business. ;) “
You have a very strange view of "pleasure," IMO.
ROFL!
Oh, okay then.
I have a high appreciation for rednecks! ;-)
During the early 1860’s, West Virginia split from Virginia. North Dakota and South Dakota split apart while still territories, and the same happened with North Carolina and South Carolina.
A North California and South California wouldn’t hurt anything at all.
Good point. One other thing to consider in Shelby county, the Memphis area that turned from blue to a purple, is the number of democrats that fled the city they detroyed. Many have moved across the state line into Desoto county Mississippi.
Don't you see what's happening here? The federal government is out of control. Small urban liberal blue hellholes in all states are running amok over the larger, more conservative areas. Look at Cook County to Illinois, Detroit to Michigan, NYC to New York State, etc. for prime examples. If you can't beat them at the ballot box, and if brain-dead people can't be convinced otherwise, then what?
Splitting away from liberals isnt going to solve a damn thing, unless you outlaw liberalism and Democrats at the same time. And youd better lock your borders down tight to keep them from migrating into your new state.
Fine with me. We'd have concealed-carry and laws against illegals. Liberals wouldn't dare move to our areas and try to push through their nutty ideas.
The right thing to do, is defeat the lunatics, not cave in to them by leaving.
Sorry but I agree wholeheartedly with Maze. People are dumb as rocks and keep getting the government they deserve. We are clearly outmatched here. Better just to go our own way and make our ideas work rather than continue to suffer.
Eventually, the whole darn country would be nothing more than a collection of non-contiguous, Balkanized states.
The country is already balkanized. It's high time to start dividing up red and blue areas and create states out of them. Or even better just split the nation up geographically between conservatives and liberals.
In the time it would take the red states to prove the blue states wrong, the (former) US would be attacked and rendered permanently impotent.
We will be attacked from within before some foreign nation attacks us.
Smug San Diego County voted for Obama. They can fall into the sea for all I care if they didn’t have the bases.
Brother, I respect you a lot. I’ve followed your posts for years on this board, and have applauded quietly at many things you’ve said, but this time I’ve got to strongly disagree with you.
Call it a difference of opinion if you will, but I feel that this is MY DAMN COUNTRY, and the leftist moonbats and other rear teat suckers can kiss my behind. I’m not for giving up one square inch of America to those worthless parasites.
Damn it, law-abiding, tax-paying, patriotic Americans are still in the majority in this country. It’s ridiculous to even think of breaking up OUR country to separate ourselves from the collectivists and other wagon riders among us.
I feel that we have no option but to recapture command and control of our government from the imbeciles and juveniles now in charge. Only then can we restore some semblance of order and prosperity to the nation.
I don’t know. I understand that our future looks fairly dim right now, but as long as I can choose to hold faith with the Founders and all the patriots who came before me, then I will do so, and never surrender.
Great point
Agreed. This is stupid.
