Historically Haitians cut down their trees for lumber and ship's timber and other specialized uses.

Sugar cane is not grown on moutainsides so that's not why the hills are mostly bare on the north jaw and in the center.

Later deforestation came about for charcoal which they use for cooking and heat at night in the hills where it can be chilly.

The French have been gone 200 years....hard to blame them. What sprang up after the French were thrown out and the whites mostly massacred...those who stayed....has been arguably the world's worst experiment in self government we've seen so far in the modern era.

Why is that? I doubt many not even here care to really tackle that.

The common excuse is that somehow the world did it.

Haiti is a strange place, I used to like it there but don't get sick. The stories I could tell...blood curdling....dead babies stacked up like cordwood....necklaced corpses left to rot for days in that putrid stench....murder in front of your eyes like in a play yet real....goons in blue jeeps with AR-15s....

That's Haiti. I hear it's worse now.

Cedras may have been their last decent hope for order but we killed that.

Whose fault is it but theirs that they didn't develop it into something other than huts, generational poverty, disease, superstition and corruption?

And, surprise, slave trading!

those examples you gave hardly rise above being managed well like Detroit, Memphis or New Orleans.

Kingston is Godawful.

Botswana’s standard of living parallels Mexico but it does better than most African nations no doubt.

The only African social entities not third world are probably Bermuda, the Caymans, and Anguilla.

All of those are quite exceptional....outside capital.

South Africa is split and sinking. Whites should get out if they can.

Sometimes this “shading” process leads light-skinned blacks to become “super black” in their posture. Witness Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who is at most 1/8th black, but wears dashikis and acts like both of his parents were dragged here in chains and whipped daily.

Haitians were the first black in the hemisphere to throw off the chains of slavery and colonialism.

It was in the early 19th century, and they have had black (or at least mulatto if you will) self-rule since then.

Look how well they have done with that legacy.

Draw what conclusion you will, but the Haitians less than any other Caribbean nation can blame slavery and colonialism. They threw it off fully 200 years ago, and since then, have run their own island — for good or ill.

He might have been a Pinochet, but we murdered that baby in the crib due to PC considerations. And just look at how well our PC posture and demands have served Haiti!

Botswana just to the north of South Africa, and most of the English speaking Caribbean...

Yes and there are problems there also!

Alicia Keys is another example. I guess they feel they have to say outlandish things to prove they're worthy of being in the club.

France will cave in to them, I am betting we see another South Africa in the making here.

More like Zimbabwe. Give it a year or two, and they will PRAY that things could be allowed to go back to how they were, after all the middle-class business owners pull out under threat of their lives.

In areas that are really dark like Haiti, Jamaica and Domican Republic, it becomes blame the shades...the lighter the more blame worthy.

Although they did give Manley a pass, but only because he was a whore for the unions in Kingston.

Yep. The French gave the natives history textbooks that began with “OUR ancestors the Gauls” and continued to use overwhelmingly white police to provide security in the overseas departments. There is no excuse for the “hate whitey” attitude, however, despite Gallic colonial cluelessness.

That's as stupid as the Apartheid regime in South Africa, forcing the blacks to learn Afrikaans.

I had no idea that Guadaloupe had more white than Martinique. I do know that most of the populace on Martinique resembles that of Cabo Verde rather than Sierra Leon in appearance.

The “Redlegs” were actually a mixture of Irish prisoners taken by Cromwell and Scottish/English folks who were “trouble” back home. You do meet some pure-blood descendants in Barbados, but most mixed with the blacks.

Alicia Keys is an Afritalian (very hot combo, in my experience), who got the way she is by attending NYC public schools, where the blacks are MILITANT about anyone a shade darker than them should "act black" or be ostracized or worse.

For some reason, they draw the line at Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, most of whom are part black.
