Last night the Hannity Show said that the dems are discussing a new MILEAGE TAX on how many miles we drive.

And...again...those slackers WHO DO NOT WORK AND ARE ON WELFARE...get the breaks! Now we are being punished for driving to our jobs!

Another one of those tricks to “spread the wealth around”, while we pay the bills.

This may have already been mentioned, but there is/was a trial run in Oregon.

You’re right, and I didn’t go into that much detail, but it shows just how the “redistribution” plan works. Now it may take time to implement, but he is counting on the blue state with lots of Dem legislatures to run with the ball and slowly implement. I’m appalled at their BLATANT disregard for people who have long distances to drive. If you live in rural area you understand how “those $4+ gas prices” almost ruined those families, and now this proposal.

example:
If you have a child in football or any sports or FFA or FHA, or any after school or evening activities...then travel distance is double. If home is 20 miles from school, it is then 40, then 80 miles round trip... in ONE DAY. Take even 4 cents pr mile, and it adds up fast. 100 miles is $4, so add that to gas prices and loss of Bush tax cuts next year...what stimulus?? and getting $8 in a paycheck won’t even cover the extra tax on mileage for two days for some.

WE need to write emails, support the Tea Parties over housing injustice, and let FoxNews, CNN, CBS and all the newspapers know what we think about it. OUR VOICE MUST BE HEARD!

Let me see....Economy is down the crapper and Congress wants to impose taxes that will discourage travel. Brilliant!

The consequence of driving results in spending money or making money. Congress doesn't like that apparently.

1. Rural families
2. RVers
3. Travelors
4. Tourist Areas
5. Businesses like Malls
6. Sports Arena game attendance
7. Hotels/Motels in route
8. Teen Drivers
9. Taxis
10. Transportation of Goods
11. Construction (as if they haven’t been killed already)
12. Real Estate agents/ Salespeople who travel for a living

This would certainly be a boon for a certain class of automotive technician who can “adjust” odometer readings...

My county doesnt work for the feds. They dont have the people to administer such nonsense. Never happen. I’ll tell them to take a hike if they do. That’s one device I know won’t be installed on my car.

The GPS angle is absurd. The computer and telemetry systems (backoffice infrastructure) that would be needed to track 10 to 25 MILLION simultaneous GPS feeds - and then the “accounts” for 100 milion vehicles - would be insane.

Besides why would they duplicate the effort when the cell phone companies have already done all the things listed in your post (including GPS functions in almost all cell phones).

They promise they're not using the data. Cross their hearts and hope to die if they are lying.

And of course their networks are not available to the NSA. To get access the NSA would need passwords...

I’m not going to reinvent the wheel for you. You have to take it upon yourself - as I have over many years - to examine federal IT and technology projects and to then reach a conclusion based on that research.

Your example of NASA is specious because NASA did not have an Orwellian “reach deep into my pocket” breach of personal and civil liberties taint to it.

But I must emphasize that’s quite apart from the other technical, logistic, personnel, staffing, and financing issues I’ve mentioned already.

An immigration tracking system is also “easy”. That’s why the feds have been trying to build one for 10+ years. Unsuccessfully.

A case management system for the FBI is also “easy”. That’s why the feds have been trying to build one for 15+ years. Unsuccessfully.

When I say impossible I don;t mean “impossible on a small scale” or even “impossible for a competent private company on a large/massive scale”. There are several GPS tracking services out there right now.

What I do mean is “impossible for the feds”.

I wasn’t clear about that before.

I don’t understand why you’d need a GPS for this.

You’re reading mileage from a static vehicle, just as we’ve been doing with odometers for the last 50 years.

What’s the point of having a GPS?
