McCain, Kyl bemoan spending, lack of bipartisanship in stimulus plan [whining RINOs]

As President Obama prepared to arrive in the Valley to unveil the second phase of his stimulus plan, Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl bemoaned the massive spending and lack of bipartisanship that went into the first phase.

At a Feb. 17 press conference at Arizona State University's West Campus, McCain and Kyl lambasted the president and the majority Democrats in Congress for the $787 billion stimulus plan passed last week. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan amounts to "generational theft," McCain said, and will do little or nothing to stimulate the economy.

"The bipartisan stimulus package was neither bipartisan nor stimulating," McCain said. "This stimulus package ... was business as usual in Washington."

The package was approved by the Congress on Feb. 13 with the votes of three Republican senators - Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Main. McCain and Kyl derided the notion that the president had proceeded in a bipartisan manner.

Senate Republicans had an alternate proposal, McCain and Kyl said, which called for $420 billion in spending and included a trigger that would end federal stimulus spending after two consecutive quarters of economic growth. And they chided House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her post-election comment that the Democrats won and they'll write the bill.

"We stand ready to sit down with the president and our counterparts on the other side of the aisle at any time," McCain said.

McCain should realize by now that bipartisanship and civility are dead in this Congress particularly with the Obama, Pelosi and Reid troika in charge.

"The bipartisan stimulus package was neither bipartisan nor stimulating," McCain said. "This stimulus package ... was business as usual in Washington."

Once again, McOldfart fails to grasp the "big picture". He complains that this socialist coup isn't "bipartisan". Mind you, he's not complaining that it's a socialist power grab, just complaining that it isn't "bipartisan".

Just go away, Juan. Far away. Now.

Wahhhh...we were only going to spend $420 billion....not $787 billion like Obama...

I read the McLame plan, and it was so weak on tax cuts that it looked like it was written by another Democrat.

They will probably kiss and make up so to push Illegal Alien Amnesty later

I didn’t think that Kyl was a RINO. Please advise.

Did he support the illegal alien amnesty?

Kyl was a co-sponsor and proponent of S. 1438 in the 109th Congress, the Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act of 2005.

Any Republican who supported any of the infamous amnesty bills ought to be noted as a RINO.

Yes Kyl did initially but got his mind change by the uproar.

In general, he is a pretty good conservative but he's too much of a nice guy to be a party whip.

Had MCLame steadfastly opposed the original TARP, he’d have been elected in a landslide.

McCain has to take a hit from all the haters for THIS?? He slams Obama and trashes the stimulus disaster plan and there are still people on FR who have to jump in with their worn out RINO comments? That just shows how pointless and uninformed their political commentary is.

Kyl’s not a RINO to the extent McCain is. Don’t listen to the purists. He’s not perfect, but he’s not Honest John McCain either.

And they chided House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her post-election comment that the Democrats won and they'll write the bill.

That statement is a great gift, and will make wonderful commercials for the 2010 elections in the wake of the bill's failure...for whichever political party has enough guts to actually challenge the Democrats. This probably won't be the Republicans.
