But they said the results were skewed by Chavez's broad use of state resources to get out the vote, through a battery of state-run news media, pressure on 2 million public employees and frequent presidential speeches which all television stations are required to air.

Coming soon to a country near you....

Ballot boxes, stuffed or not, he won.

Was it a fair election?

The opposition has been gradually prohibited to the point where they had their hands tied behind their backs.

Germany 1933, Venezuela 2009.

History repeats itself...

A dictator is installed by voters.

Germany 1933, Venezuela 2009.

The big difference is that Hitler never won an election in his life. Heck, I don't think he ever even ran for political office, if my memory serves me well. It was Gernam President Von Hindenberg who appointed Hitler as Chancellor of Germany, after the old man was subjugated to an all-night harrange by his pro-Nazi nephew. (or son, can't recall for certain.)

And propped up by sycophants.

From CBS-News:
July 29, 2006
"Chavez pledged that his country would 'stay by Iran at any time and under any condition,' state television reported. Ahmadinejad said he saw in Chavez a kindred spirit." "'We do not have any limitation in cooperation,' Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying. 'Iran and Venezuela are next to each other and supporters of each other. Chavez is a source of a progressive and revolutionary current in South America and his stance in restricting imperialism is tangible'":

His party got the most votes in the 1932 election for members of the Reichstag.

Hindenburg appointed Hitler Chancellor for that reason.

Then came the Reichstag fire and Hitler blamed Communists so he could put their party out of business. They competed for his voters.

A less free parliamentary election in 1933 that followed the fire increased the Nazi share of the Reichstag, then Hitler allied with Nationalists and had a majority in the parliament.

Step by step freedoms were eliminated and the various German state governments were legislated out of their powers by parliamentary votes in Berlin.

Chavez has been following a similar pattern in recent years by taking power away from mayors and governors.

Lots of people fought and won last time. They fudged the numbers to make it look close. It was a farce.

Have no idea what happened now but it probably is nothing short of outright fraud.

Some Venezuelan bloggers were watching the events last time. I viewed it and it was a bilingual website.

Will try to find it again. It’s a sad day for the proud people of Venezuela. Freedom may have been snuffed out permanently.

He kept repeating the vote until he got the outcome he wanted. And now “it has been decided by the people” and no more voting is necessary.

The 111th Congress already has H.R. #5 in the pipeline thanks to a Congress guy from NY. If Conservative Americans do not want to see a Chavez like populist in the WH in perpetuity, I suggest those who care stop whining in blogs and get politically active at the grass roots level until leftists no longer own the WH and both chambers of Congress. Otherwise you will all be complaining about a similar election result after two thirds of the States approve the Constitutional Amendment with the help of left wing voter fraud. BTW, I have been overseas for over three years watching what is happening back home with great discouragement; will be joining you soon.

Regards.

“Chavez wins vote to scrap term limits in Venezuela”

The way they are going here it may be coming to the USA too. A quote from that article by a woman “These people don’t realize what they have done,” sounds familiar.
