In a press conference Thursday, the House Republican leadership spoke candidly about being kept out of the House-Senate conference on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid so-called economic stimulus bill. They confirmed they had not yet seen the text of the bill as of 4 p.m.
<SNIP> The fact that the Demos have now broken their promise to have the public able to see the bill for 48 hours may drive more Dems into the Republican camp.
[I] dont know, cause they havent seen the bill either, Boehner said.
The American people have a right to know whats in this bill, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind) told HUMAN EVENTS after the press conference. Every member of Congress -- Republicans and Democrats -- voted to post this bill on the internet for 48 hours, 48 hours ago. Well see if the Democrats keep their word.

Hammering away for what it’s worth. A very funny conversation with the intern at Sen. Menendez’s office.
He had the points down and I tore into them of course. Said no one is listening to the people. But he was very polite to do so.
Joked about turning Hudson County, NJ into the US. He didn’t know what I was talking about. Told him to do a search at home and add the Senator’s name if he felt brave enough.
He was from Maryland so he really doesn’t understand Joisey.
The guy (Senator Sharrod Brown) that is at his mother’s viewing today and going to her funeral tomorrow was “castigated” by his fellow Dems for not being present to vote for Geitner”.
He also have a terrible record for showing up to many important votes. Sounds like commitment problems. Let’s hope he doesn’t show up for this Senate vote.
I have just been in phone contact with both the RNC and the RNSC (National Republican Senatorial Commettee) regarding campaign funding for Collins, Snowe, and Specter. The RNC directed me to the RNSC regarding matters pertaining to the distribution of funds to the various senators. I suggested that the RNSC communicate to the senators today the ultimatum that if they voted for this Porkulus bill, they would not get any campaign funds next election. The RNSC spokesperson said she would pass my concerns on to John Cornyn (Chairman of the RNSC), but not necessarily today. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this response and asked if they had received any other calls on this subject, and she said, “no.”
I find this hard to beleive......can it be true they have received no calls on this subject?
Relax, it’s just the party line. They aren’t going to air the dirty linen publicly.
Bottom line, we don’t know what Cornyn or anyone at the RNSC is saying to the three traitors.
And that’s what they are. Instead of allowing opposition as a whole to act on behalf of the people, they went and stabbed their own party and country in the back to serve their own ends.
Any chance we can stop this? Can Specter, Snowe, & Collins be persuaded at least on the basis that NOBODY IN CONGRESS HAS EVEN READ WHAT THEY ARE VOTING ON?!?!?
Keep the pressure on these clowns.
What are y’all hearing from their offices?
Relax? Party line or not, the RNSC doesn’t seem to have gotten through to the three traitors yet, since thay are still publicly saying they will vote for the bill.

***I don’t believe that anyone can get through to these three dimwits. I’ve emailed McCain and asked him to use his “power” to make them see the light.
I would love to be a fly on the wall if in fact someone is “talking” to them. But with my luck, they’d see me and I’d get squashed.***
I tried using Snowe and Specter’s online contact forms:
No reply yet from Snowe’s office.
From Specter (since non-constituents don’t count, evidently):
Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
I receive a large volume of E-mails, phone calls, faxes and letters every week from concerned citizens like yourself.

Is there another e-mail for Specter so I could at least fill up his inbox?
My Senators are both totally in the tank Dems, so not much sense in writing them. :-(
Note the spelling, “recieving” in the reply. Hahaha.
I got the same reply from Spector the other day. He’s not inclined to change his position regardless of what it does to this country.
Can someone point me towards the source for the 48 hour waiting vote? I can’t seem to find the official story on it.

***Typical govt. employees. Sometimes I think they respond like robots.
On another thread, someone posted that if you dialed (old fashion word!) *67 BEFORE the phone # it blocks the ID at the other end. Then just pick a town in PA as your hometown.
I’m tired of receiving those responses, too. I’ve written them back to say that they are U.S. Senators and as such their votes affect me!***
Does anyone know if there is another e-mail for Specter so I could at least fill up his inbox?
I though I’d seen a listing of U.S. House and Senate e-mail & other contacts for all members, on FR somewhere, but I can’t seem to find it. (Yes, I tried a search.) Thanks in advance.

I absolutely agree!!!
(2) For purposes of this paragraph, a report of a committee of conference is made available to the general public as of the time it is posted on a publicly accessible website controlled by a Member, committee, Library of Congress, or other office of Congress, or the Government Printing Office, as reported to the Presiding Officer by the Secretary of the Senate.
(b)(1) This paragraph may be waived in the Senate with respect to the pending conference report by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn. A motion to waive this paragraph shall be debatable for not to exceed 1 hour equally divided between the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader or their designees.
(2) An affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members, duly chosen and sworn, shall be required to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair on a point of order raised under this paragraph. An appeal of the ruling of the Chair shall be debatable for not to exceed 1 hour equally divided between the Majority and the Minority Leader or their designees.
(c) This paragraph may be waived by joint agreement of the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader of the Senate, upon their certification that such waiver is necessary as a result of a significant disruption to Senate facilities or to the availability of the Internet.
AppyPappy wrote:Cboldt gave you the link to Senate Rule 28 above. That's the Senate version. If a point of order is raised in the Senate, it takes 60 votes (3/5ths) to set aside the point of order. The 48 hour wait isn't automatic. At least one Senator has to bring the point of order, and then at least 40 have to be in favor of the point of order to sustain it.

The House rules are different. It wasn't in the rules on the House Side. It was in a "Motion to instruct conferees" brought to the floor by Mr. Lewis of California.
The motion is on Page H1096 of the Congressional Record (pdf format).
The vote on his motion is on Page H1101 of the Congressional Record (pdf format).
I'm not sure who the Speaker Pro Tempor was at that time, but they declared that the "noes" appeard to have it. Mr. Lewis then objected and asked for a roll call vote, and the motion passed unanimously 403 "Yeas" to no "Noes."
In short, every Democrat present on Tuesday at 4pm voted to wait 48 hours after the Conference report was released. And all but 7 of them made liars of themselves today.
If you want a Propaganda Ministry (formerly "the media") story about this, don't hold your breath.
And if you want to read the whole debate in HTML format, the Thomas version is at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/R?r111:FLD001:H01096:.
Sorry. I forgot the sarcasm indicator.
It appears Cao learned nothing from his family’s repression at the hands of communism.
