Drudge Report Announcement

GREGG WITHDRAWS NOMINATION FOR COMMERCE SEC
Thu Feb 12 2009 16:18:14 ET

For Immediate Release:
Thursday, February 12, 2009

Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary

Sen. Gregg stated, “I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President´s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.

“Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.

“As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.”

Didn’t Judd ‘Abstain’ in the Porkulus vote, because he wanted to show ‘loyalty’ to his new master??

Yes the only two who did not vote on the first cloture motion were Cornyn and Gregg. On the vote to waive the deficit cap, it was only Gregg and again on the final vote to pass the Senate version, it was again Gregg as the lone "not voting" Sinator.

Well if you think about it, he would have had control of the Census Bureau which means ultimately means control over congressional district mapping.

Possible but didn’t they move the Census over to WH group for control. I think that may have played a role in his decision, if correct.

A quote from another thread:
“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Judd Gregg...poster child for The Stupid Party. He’s stupid to have agreed to it in the first place and stupid to withdraw his nomination now thinking he and Obama weren’t going to agree. Now he’s neither a senator nor a cabinet member. I guess he’ll become a lobbyist.

We should be glad this airhead is out of the way.

Hopefully, this doesn’t open up the job to Slick Willie in any way, shape or form.

Now that would be something. Not something good, but something.

But I think Slick is holding out for Secretary General. OTOH, lots of money to be scammed at Commerce.

Gregg is completely sucking up to Obama. Yuck. Not even mentioning the Census.

Being gracious...

Meantime, the first of the surrogate jackals, Ray LaHood raves on CNBC that Gregg "Begged Obama to Be Secretary of Commerce and should have known what the job would entail!"

Perhaps a little late but..., never too late to learn the wisdom of: "When you lie with the dogs you arise with fleas!"

Now that the Sith Lord 0bama has taken personal control ...

Sith Lord. Not a bad analogy. Except really, truly, I don't think Hussein is that smart. As evil as Palpatin is, he is also cunning...Hussein seems to be lost, needing his advisors to tell him what to do.

"Now he’s neither a senator nor a cabinet member."

Wrong, he is still a Senator. He did not resign his seat. He was smart to move away from this corrupt administration. And the stupid party, as you call it, is trying to stop this Porkulous bill Obama is pushing through. Guess you favor Democrats, the party of corruption.

BTW, do you know the famous murdering dentist from Dacula?

I agree. It disheartens me to see so many Freepers jumping on Gregg. Hey, the guy did the right thing. He’s not so old. He could have ridden that comfy job right on to a cozy retirement without the angst of being a Senator. I mean, come on, Secretary of Commerce is not a job known for its long hours and hard work.

Whatever his reason for accepting the position, he’s now walking away from it. And obviously for the right reason as he specifically, but politely, mentioned that kneecap move by the WH to take over the census.

One doesn’t have to read between the lines to understand this.

Further, this move by Gregg has big legs and will draw attention to that sneaky move to cheat. The GOP has GOT to fight that move. They’re all we have.

They also could, just throwing it out there, throw Collins and those other two overboard too. If they want the party base to happy is what I’m saying here.

Throw 'em out of the party.

Do you have any IDEA who the Democrats are who will replace Collins and Snowe?

What the hell is the difference? A liberal in the pubbie party is still a damn liberal.

Stop giving them GOP money, that’s the difference.

If he votes no, would that make an impact?

As long as the other three contintue to vote YEA it won't change anything but the margin. (Unless some 'Rat Senators switch over, but that's not likely).

Corbin was my family dentist. I last saw him six months before he did his deed. I also made the news when they captured Brian Nichols. i was in the building across the street from the apartment they caught him in.

I actually believe that Steele is behind this and is in attack mode.

Come on guys, grow some balls and a spine.
