GREGG WITHDRAWS NOMINATION FOR COMMERCE SEC

For Immediate Release:
Thursday, February 12, 2009

Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary

Sen. Gregg stated, “I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President´s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.

“Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.

“As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.”

The “stimulus” plan should be renamed the “Welfare Expansion Act of 2009”. It will vastly increase federal spending, but will do next to nothing to alleviate the current, government-caused, economic crisis.

If the Obama administration had any common sense, it would eliminate mark-to-market accounting. If Congress and the president had brains, they would eliminate the federal income tax and all its excess baggage, replacing it with a national sales tax.

The above two actions would result in an unprecedented economic boom.

Come on Gregg!
Announce that you must withdraw from the position because you do not think Obama is actually qualified to be the president of the United States of America and all of his cabinet appointments are doomed. Choose to remain in your current job and not suffer the fate of Hillary when she is no longer sec of state or senator as Obama is kicked to the White House curb.

Now that Obama’s done what’s he’s done with the Census, who will agree to be the Commerce pick? I mean, either Obama has to issue an EO canceling the other EO, or his Commerce pick will have to know that power has been removed from the office.

And if Obama cancels the other EO, he not only loses face, but he makes it obvious to all with an IQ above dirt that it was a raw political, and racist, power grab.
What to do?

Laugh and buy more popcorn!

No doubt, Gregg was probably reluctant from the get-go. I really thought there was a chance he'd drop out.

While not a full fledged conservative, Gregg thankfully corrected a serious error in judgment made on his part and in the process making Obama look bad.

Oh I have a suspicion, Hillary is in doing a lot of damage inside the WH,seems to me, she is holding a very big rival base against Obama. She may take him down before he takes her down.

Right on. That’s why a Press Conference is important. But, MSM won’t tell the sheeple.

Ditto.

He may be a rino, but he’s not a commie.

LOL. Good one.

When I asked, “What to do”, I was asking in the place of Obama, what is HE to do????

More derisive laughter.

I’m glad he showed the testicular fortitude to turn it down.

Apparently TF only runs as far East as New Hampshire.
