President Obama got help for his claim of rising above politics to pass an economic stimulus package with Republican Florida Gov. Charlie Crist introducing him at a town hall event in the Sunshine State on Tuesday.
Obama made it clear in his first prime-time press conference Monday night that passing his stimulus package is more of a priority than changing the hyper-partisan traditions of Washington.
But the president said his extended outreach to Republicans since taking office is part of a long-term effort to build trust.
Enter Crist.
The popular Florida governor was widely credited with helping Obama's Republican rival Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) win the Florida primary, propelling him to the nomination.
With Washington Republicans howling that they have been shut out of negotiations on the stimulus package by congressional Democrats despite Obama's claims of outreach, the president stood with Crist in Ft. Myers, Fla., on Tuesday and said that Crist "shares my conviction that creating jobs and turning this economy around is a mission that transcends party."

Can you pretend you’re surprised?
All of these RINO’s giving Obama bipartisan cover should be immediatley relieved of their GOP membership.
Not kidding. I would rather have a tiny minority of conservatives than a coalition beholden to wimpy moderates.
Crist is a freaking idiot.
To ALL florida FREEPERS. Crist needs to go asap. We have a great guy, Allen West. If enough of us urge him, maybe he will run for Governor instead of congress again. We need him HERE not up on the hill!!! Letter I sent him asking him to do so below. Please urge him on!!!!
Dear Mr. West,
I would like to thank you for your valiant attempt to run for congress. I am also, in a very small way, glad you failed. Not because I believe you could not do an extrememley excellent job, but I believe you are needed on a bigger stage in this, our country’s darkest hour.
We are headed toward some scary times, my friend. We, in Florida, NEED you here with us! I witnessed today, an unforgivable act. Our REPUBLICAN Governor, Charlie Crist, took the stage to help promote the man who is working to turn our country into a nationalized, socialistic nightmare. He is pandering to a party who plans to reject him, and the grassroots Conservative revolution is swelling.
We have been overrun by the liberal, buy votes don’t earn them mentality that a free republic cannot and should not stand for. We are getting crushed by entitlement spending, nationalization of health care, tax cheating cabinet appointments, and the list goes on and on.
The one thing we conservatives realized about the error of the Republican partys ways, were, we disengaged the fight in our mayorships, governorships, boards of education, town councils and state legislatures. We acted like the fight was over, however, all we did was give the liberal progressives time to plan and gain a foothold. We must now start here, at the beginning, and retake the government to ensure a smaller government that truly works for EVERYONE, including the unborn, poor, and rich.
I ask you sir, will you accept the challenge? I will work night and day to help you, give what I can, and tirelessly advance your name and platform for Governor of Florida. You, not some RINO, needs to lead our State, protect our rights, and reject the overwhelming interference of the Federal Government in our state. I beg you sir! Stand for us once more. Charlie Crist is done, over, and will NOT be our nominee if we can have a man such as yourself run against him.
Sincerely,
I wonder if Obama will go through the “kill old people” provisions of his socialized medicine laws in the bill for all those retirees in Florida???
So true. But hey, the voters in Florida had a choice and they deserve what they got, just as Californians should’ve been forced to ride it out with Davis a few years ago. I don’t see populist support for a Terminator II type replacement and the sad thing is what Crist doing is worse: Davis was an idiot; Crist is a malicious RINO one.
Proud to say I did not vote for him.
“Obama made it clear in his first prime-time press conference Monday night that passing his stimulus package is more of a priority than changing the hyper-partisan traditions of Washington.”
This makes little sense. If nearly the whole opposing party votes against it, isn’t there a chance that the bill is partisan? How come only opposing the bill is called partisan, whereas supporting it is rising above the fray? Oh, right, because Obama’s a Democrat.
By the way, wasn’t it hillarious how Obama talked about the madness of arguing over who’s up and who’s down in hopelessly partisan Washington, then a bit later complained about inheriting Bush’s deficit/recession?
I wouldn’t have voted for Crist either, if he were running for office up here in Pittsburgh.
He is actually from PA originally, but he would be “too conservative” to win up there.
There must some slavery reparations language in the bill that Crist likes.
I credit Crist, McLettuce and Huck for knocking out Romney.
He and Sarah could have won.
asking for my vote back. I guess I did not do enough due diligence prior to it. I will work to rectify that mistake.
I totally agree. I wasn’t going to be voting here in Fl for Crist as a result of that but this slobbering often Obama just reinforces it.
i am sorry to say i voted for the man....but when you look at who was running against him he seemed the lesser of two evils....
yes we had a choice and you should have seen what the other was....not pleasant at all....it would be like having to choose between gore and kerry in the general election...which do you choose...
“i am sorry to say i voted for the man....but when you look at who was running against him he seemed the lesser of two evils....”
ditto. same as for the Pres election....McCain was terrible but Mr. Obama was extremely terrible. Sad state we’re in....
Called Crist’s office re his support of the ‘spendulus’ bill and intro of Mr. Obama in Ft. Myers. left msg...asking if Gov Crist would still support Bill if ACORN gets money and uses $$ to register more Dems who will then vote for Dem Gov or Dem FL Senator???
He would not have picked her as VP.
