Critical Threats: Blank When None
Cheney warns of new attacks

Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.

In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.

And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans — and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.

“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.

“Does Barack?”

First things, first - PGalt.
Evidently, a trip to Copenhagen to pacify the Chicago Machine is more important.

Hate to be a pessimist, but I don’t see anything good coming.

0bama is half-stepping in Afghanistan - placing our military there at rise - especially with the new rules of engagement.

Iran will probably get hit by Israel, and I suspect Israel may be forced to use some tactial nukes to accomplish it. 0bama does not have the forces in place to blunt an Iranian response, so the gulf will get really messy fast - and we will lose more good men and women because of his incompetence.

And an attack is just what 0bama needs to get his poll numbers up as the American people always rally around the flag for those moments.

EXCELLENT IN-DEPTH LOOK AT IRANIAN PRESENCE IN THE USA
Alan note: I wonder to what extent our Homeland Security is trying to handle all this? Other than hiring these people or their similars into high, policy making positions. With Oba-Hussein doing the same.

One of the best papers I have seen in a long time - and worth the time to go through it and devote the time to check out the links.

But you must understand he’s SO VERY busy trying to bring the Olympics to a city that’s already broke and getting the Olympics will put them in the ditch financially - but oh well, Daley wants it and 0 owes them big time. Can you say blackmail.

Of course the old cronies will make money on real estate - you all know who that is.

Police feared wave of monthly attacks by terrorist leader

Snippets: Saifuddin Jaelani, the man who has emerged as the most wanted terrorist in Indonesia, may have been planning a wave of monthly attacks, Indonesian police say

Tito Karnavian, a senior officer with the Indonesian counter-terrorism unit Detachment 88, said other evidence found in a series of raids since the July bombings of two Jakarta hotels suggested a disturbing new strategy for the terrorist network.

Mr Karnavian said Jaelani had rebuilt links with Middle Eastern extremists, including groups with ties to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda. Those links were previously thought to have been severed after the arrest of Hambali, the Indonesian terrorist and al-Qaeda point man in South-East Asia who was arrested six years ago and is being held in Guantanamo Bay.

The Najibullah Zazi detention memo and his se of explosives

Snippets: Most significantly, the memorandum contains a great deal of information about Zazi’s knowledge of explosives, and efforts to obtain requisite ingredients. It has already come to light that Zazi possessed nine pages of handwritten notes containing instructions on the manufacture and handling of various kinds of explosives. (Contrary to Zazi’s claim that these notes were accidentally downloaded onto his computer, he had e-mailed them to himself twice while in Pakistan, transferred them to his laptop, and may even have written them.) The memorandum states that the notes contained specifications for Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP) -- the same kind of explosive that was used in the 7/7 attacks in London and by attempted shoe bomber Richard Reid, among others.

Much recent media attention has focused on the fact that Zazi may have attempted to buy the components of TATP (hydrogen peroxide, acetone, and a strong acid) at beauty supply stores. The detention memo traces this back to his handwritten bomb-making instructions, in which he noted “that acetone is found in nail polish remover and that hydrogen peroxide can be found in ‘Hair Salon – 20-30%.’” During the summer of 2009, Zazi performed several Internet searches for hydrochloric acid, and bookmarked a web site about “Lab Safety for Hydrochloric Acid.” He also “searched a beauty salon website for hydrocide and peroxide.” Following these web searches, the memorandum explains, Zazi and some associates (note: these alleged coconspirators still remain unnamed) purchased what is described as “unusually large quantities of hydrogen peroxide and acetone products from beauty supply stores in the Denver metropolitan area.” Specifically:

One person purchased a one-gallon container of a product containing 20% hydrogen peroxide, as well as an eight ounce bottle of acetone. A second person purchased an acetone product in approximately the first week of September. A third person purchased 32-ounce bottles of Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer, a product containing high levels of hydrogen peroxide, on approximately three occasions during the summer of 2009. Prior to traveling to New York City, Zazi stayed in a hotel in Aurora, Colorado. The FBI later tested his room for explosives and chemical residue, and found “the presence of acetone residue in the vent above the stove.” The memorandum suggests that this could have been caused by Zazi heating the components in order to make them highly concentrated, something that his bomb-making notes suggested.

No silver bullet against extremists at US biodefense labs, security report says

Snippets: There is no "silver bullet" ensuring that no would-be bioterrorist finds a job at a U.S. disease research laboratory, however measures can be taken to prevent dangerous materials from being diverted for harmful purposes, a panel of experts said today.

As of February, roughly 400 research entities were registered and roughly 15,300 individuals were cleared to have access to select agents, which include anthrax, smallpox and the Ebola virus, the NRC report states.

Study reveals that most Americans will refuse FDA authorized emergency use H1N1 flu vaccine

Snippet: The study, available online today in Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science, found that fewer than 10 percent of those surveyed said they would be willing to take such a vaccine or drug and nearly 30 percent remained undecided.

hey godzilla..long time.

i’m actually not sure about how much control Obama has over afghanistan, if the soldiers are there they are doing what they can but from what i’m reading daily, the taliban have turned it up quite a few notches. their biggest advantage is being on 6 different borders. they can hide easily. but in any case, victory doesn’t seem near.

with iran and israel, it’s a cointoss to me..who will strike first and strike hardest, strategically. i know israel has every weapon known to man but iran doesn’t exactly disclose all of their military info either yknow? but, they will come to a head.

to me i’m tired of this topic, my mind is worn down, i think half of us are half insane by now from following this issue, i really dont have much to say my opinions are out there, it’s chaos and right now it seems with the main terrorist group its waiting for the other shoe to drop.

i try to drink it all way...it works and cheerz. you guys are a really good group, to stick it out for this long takes longevity, with a topic that MOST are simply clueless about.

take care everyone...stay safe, keep on guard.

He has a considerable amount of control. Part of the Tali's resurgence is due to the highly restrictive rules of engagement he has put forth. Under Bush, greater latitude was given and the tali got their clocks cleaned by much smaller US forces. There is a thread here on FR where marines were denied air support because some civilians could be hurt. Also Afghanistan is a NATO operation. Pakistan's waffling didn't help over the past couple of years - it permitted reestablishment of tali bases to launch from deeper into Pakistan.

Iran, basic equipment wise, sucks. It has no airforce to speak of, its ground power is limited to an abundance of men willing to die. Their armor and infantry are poorly trained. Their navy is in better shape to cause some initial problems.

What Iran DOES have is an abundance of multi-range rockets that will prove difficult to shut down - as Gulf 1 showed. Note the OPEC states trying to get ABM/Patriot protection. Their potential strangle hold on the straits of Hormuz is a strong blackmail card.

If Iran was a little closer, Israel would have dealt with this a year or so ago. The issue is that the IAF has to be refueled to get to the targets and exposes them to detection. This increases the possibility that Israel may use nukes to go after this new site (and take out a military supply depot too), to supplement their air forces.

Bottom line is - if Israel strikes, the gulf will become a very contentious spot. Iran may 'unleash' its proxies - Hamas and Hezzbolah, to attack Israel, and I wouldn't be surprised if they launch ballistic missles against Israel too. Very easy for things to escalate.

Mexico seizes record 37 tonnes of drug chemicals

Mexican authorities seized a record 37 tonnes of chemical products used to produce synthetic drugs in two separate operations this week, the Justice Ministry said. The cache of phenylacetic acid -- a precursor chemical used to illicitly produce amphetamines -- was "the most important of its kind in Mexico's history," according to the ministry.

DHS report shows that 90 percent of US borders are not effectively controlled

s the new fiscal year begins, the Department of Homeland Security's Annual Performance Report indicates that the department has no plans to increase control of U.S. borders beyond the 894 miles they now claim to have under "effective control." The report reveals how little control the United States actually has over its land and sea borders, despite the 9/11 Commission's report citing uncontrolled borders as a threat to homeland security.

According to DHS's own definition, U.S. borders include 8,607 miles of land borders with Mexico and Canada and "certain coastal sectors." The 894 miles now controlled by DHS represent just a little more than 10 percent of America's borders. Despite that, according to the goals set forth for FY 2010, the department does not intend to bring one additional mile of border under control during the coming year.

"Discontinuing further expansion of border protection is a dismaying example of the government's continuing disregard for the security of the nation," charged Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). "Securing 10 percent of the border leaves 90 percent wide open for entry by illegal aliens, terrorists, drug cartels and gang leaders."
