Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
(watch video)
WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

I like what your party stands for. I also like the FALCON party. If we have to jump ship (and I'm not sure we're there yet!) better coalesce into one, not two, not five. It will be up to each party's proponents to make the case for theirs, and build a movement.
Also, it will be up to Michael Steele to balance "reaching out" against not upsetting the activists in the GOP who do the real work: the SoCons. He needs to be crystal clear about the party not compromising one inch on principle or platform. If he fails in that, THEN it will be time to move.

That is your choice. Many beaten wives stay with the abuser & are sure each time, he’ll change & see the error of his ways...or maybe he’s getting ‘better’, since last time he didn’t hit so hard, lol. Oh & men are not excluded here—they stay with abusive wives sometimes, too, have seen it. I say again, S*rew the RINO/Vichy Party.

Putting aside your gratuitous personal attacks, you’ve got your facts wrong. America’s Independent Party is “headed up” by me.

The party nominated John Sidney McCain, a person sure to lose yet closest to Obama. This showed we have one party. Now Steele's comments re outreach with pro-gay marriage groups and other radicals further proves there is no hope for the Republican party.

The issue is whether to continue association with a party whose sole direction has been one of deceiving its conservative constituency or to go to a fully independent status or to go to a party that has a history of backing conservative positions and candidates.
I have trouble with the CP’s interpretation of the constitution on war, but there’s no way that it’s in favor of surrendering American sovereignty. The exact opposite, actually. They believe in keeping American sovereignty independent of foreign entanglements.

If you weren't such a newbie you'd know.
Did anyone ever fill you in on the fact that this is a conservative website, and not necessarily a Republican one?
From FR's homepage:
Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web.

I am well aware of the nature of this site. It is why I am here.
Unlike you, I am a practical conservative as opposed to an extremist conservative. You seek to drive away all those who are not 100% ideologically pure. I want to seek common ground with those whom I disagree with on some issues in order to further our cause by strengthening the GOP.
Any proof of your claim regarding the AIP's numbers?

We have 377,000 registered AIP voters in CA. That's all it takes to be the third-largest party in America based on voter registrations.
You're not practical. You're simply short-sighted.
In the short run, compromise with evil seems pragmatic. Over time, it never is.

From what source did you get those numbers? I find it hard to believe that a party with that many registered voters could only pull in 40,000 nation wide in November.

The Secretary of State, via the CA party chairman.
AIP’s registration numbers in CA have grown by more than 10% since their disaffiliation from the Constitution Party and their affiliation with the brand new America’s Independent Party nationally.

LOLOLOLOL ..... to infinity. I've never been accused of being part of the "beaten wives syndrome".....that's a new one for me on FR.
"I'm not a quitter" means exactly that. I don't kowtow easily. I am willing to listen, learn, change my mind. I stand on principles and am willing to discuss those.

and it’s you, EV, whom I found when I was a newbie to this forum. Your unswerving statements and philosophy about the absolute evil of abortion , and its very position at the center of all the evils of extreme liberalism that we know today, was like the lighthouse w/ its beacon seen from a stormy sea. It all came clear then—our great nation had crossed the Rubicon, w/Roe v Wade in ‘73. Thank you. I am joining AIP today.

Again....I have no idea how this relates to my positions. If you're trying to convince me to leave the party or be downtrodden.....Fail. Not going to happen, yet. This thread has been 95% bashing Steele, so from that standpoint, you should be satisfied. I'm not sure how your post furthers the discussion on Steele, except to tell me to give up.
