When House Republicans planned their annual winter retreat, they extended an invitation to Alaska Gov. Sara Palin, hoping the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee would give a morale-building speech to the more than 130 Republican members of Congress gathered this weekend in Hot Springs, Va.
Retreat organizers tell ABC News that Palin politely declined, giving a perfectly understandable reason. According to the Congressional Institute, which hosted the conference, Palin said she simply could not make it to the retreat because pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska this weekend.
So where is Palin this weekend? She's in Washington, D.C., attending the super-elite Alfalfa Dinner.
"She lied to us," said a Republican at the retreat.

Look what the GOP has done to other conservative members. Unless she has drunk the globalist koolaid, maybe she should stay away from the corrupt leadership of the GOP
Isn't that the truth?
I know I have and I haven't been 'up close and personal' with them as she has.
I don't think she needs to learn anything from them!
Congressional Republicans have abandoned the ship for the last 5 years, can you blame her? They vote correctly once, finally, and they want recognition. Please. They sold us down the river, along with Bush, and they have a long way to go to make it up.
Are we paying for this crap too, or maybe it comes under the new $93,000 they just voted for to pad their "expense accounts". (wink wink)
Most people out there are just worried about their jobs and mortgages and feeding their kids. These thieves can just add $93k a year to their expense accounts without even asking us if we needed an extra $93k a year.
Showing up with Michael Steele is a good play.
She is going to need a lot of help AND, it would be nice if she pitching the House Repubs on why they should be sticking to their guns on financial discipline.
That's right - "stiff" is what Obama did to the Medal of Honor recipients on inauguration day.
If she wants to be the leader then show up and rally the troops. Show them that she’s willing to be out front, talking policy, reminding people what Obama and the Dems promised and have not delivered and why her stance is the right one, i.e., stop the damned spending. She was the real conservative on the ticket and the ONLY reason why McCain didn’t produce a Mondale or a McGovern.
The GOP just told Obama to take his stimulus and shove it up his bony ass.
They carried Bush’s water far too long
Ahhh ... that first sip was delightful.
The delusional can stay sober”
Ha Ha ha Good!! I am not alone with my Observation.
do not give the DC staffer class a free pass. There are republican staffers who have nothing but fear to direct at palin.
Call them the Whitman wing,
call them the closet liberals
The last thing those who depend on the government for employment or concealment (or endorsement) of their personal vices is a true individual rights, power of the citizen, defend the nation conservative.
Hello she has an active volcano ready to blow at any second only 100 miles from Anchorage ! She would be irresponsible to leave for a weekend retreat !
I keep reminding my liberal friends that this is exactly how the democrat press treated Ronaldo Maximus for the years leading up to his victory in 1980. They couldn’t wait for the GOP to nominate him so they could humiliate the “cowboy” in the election. heh
Her physical location has little, if anything, to do with what she's doing while she's there. Perhaps she's in Washington attending to some matters related to governing Alaska.
That said, she could, and probably should, have made arrangements to get over to Virginia for the Republican event.
As far as I have heard they had a 100% turnout.
Since getting to the retreat was a 300 mile round trip from Washington, what was so convenient about it?
Didn’t you hear? These stories are always true when it’s something negative about Palin.
The rest of the time they can’t be trusted.
Considering that they all pretty much treated her like sh*t, it’s a little difficult to blame her.
No that there is anything wrong with that.
I don't know either if Pense had anything to do with the organization of the retreat.
Where did you hear that. Not saying that you are wrong, but you said AFAYK.
I'm the one that called it a RINO fest from the few names I saw associated with it.
Maybe I was wrong.
True dat, what the MSM is trying to do.
But so do some republicans.
It's no biggie that Palin didn't go, she was busy doing what she thought best for her state.
Perhaps those doing scheduling for these events should see if there are potential conflicts when they are looking at dates.
