When House Republicans planned their annual winter retreat, they extended an invitation to Alaska Gov. Sara Palin, hoping the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee would give a morale-building speech to the more than 130 Republican members of Congress gathered this weekend in Hot Springs, Va.
Retreat organizers tell ABC News that Palin politely declined, giving a perfectly understandable reason. According to the Congressional Institute, which hosted the conference, Palin said she simply could not make it to the retreat because pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska this weekend.
So where is Palin this weekend? She's in Washington, D.C., attending the super-elite Alfalfa Dinner.
"She lied to us," said a Republican at the retreat.

Rules for Radicals Rule #12. That is what is happening to Sarah Palin right now and for the next 4 years
I may disagree with Steele on some things, but it remains to be seen what impact his views will have on his policies to loft solid Republicans into power.
I’ve seen Steele debate Democrats on a number of occasions, and he did a damned good job of it.
I’m not going to trash talk him before he reveals what his game plan is. He may turn out to be a very effective leader of the RNC, one that will advance our cause quite well.
These losers will still take money from Sarah-PAC next year though, won’t they?
Who cares about the GOP! She was invited to the Alfalfa dinner and that takes precedence over a bunch of party hacks.
Why is everyone saying this was a RINO fest? As far as I know it was organized by Mike Pence, who is no RINO. Whether Palin showed up or not, this is ABC’s attempt at trying to cause a rift between conservatives and other Republicans. I’m sure the Republicans would have preferred to have her speak, but Boehner responding, “Whatever”, can just as easily be explained that he was trying to not draw any attention to her not being there.
ABC got what it wanted....the responses on their blog site are disgusting.
I’m encouraged with what the House Republicans are doing right now.
I wonder if the misspelling of Sarah’s name by this dork was intentional. Then again, if he’s an Obamacorn Leg Tingler (OLT), he may have never heard of Governor Palin until he was given this assignment to write this garbage.
Pull out of the war on Michael Steele. You’re hopelessly stuck in a quagmire.
Mount Redoubt is expected to blow it’s stack at any moment. She is doing exactly the right thing staying there to take care of any evacuations and ordering up National Guard as needed.

I thought they had a volcano to worry about in AK?
That mistake was not doing what she should have done - address the House GOP in Virginia while she is conveniently in Washington. She’s a party leader now.
Considering all the nasty jokes Obama made about her last night during that dinner I don’t blame her for wanting to go home
What Stars?? I see Global Warming Newt the Quitter and our new Affirmative Action supporter guy!! The Real Star Conservative was NOT there.
Although this isn’t for her run as president, this PAC was set up to help her win friends and influence people, by collecting political IOU’s.
“I want to congratulate you on your Golden Globe for ‘30 Rock’.”
To Palin, Obama expressed surprise to see her with such members of the Washington elite she railed against during the campaign. Or, as he termed it in language Palin is familiar with, palling around with this crew.
This is what Obama thought was funny last night. The fact that he had to make these “jokes” shows me how scared to death of her he really is
abc news?
Until this is confirmed by a reputable news source, it’s questionable rumor and nothing else.
And you are blinding your own judgment.
There are many reasons why she could’ve and should’ve addressed the House GOP in VA while already in DC - I can’t think of any why she shouldn’t however. I say this as a fan of hers, because I want her to succeed.
That may be.
I don't think it was as simple a choice as it may appear: The retreat was a partisan event which she has to ration her traveling to; there were (gasp!) lobbyists there- the media would have loved proclaiming that; she had to weigh being linked to the House Republicans.
Personally, I think she should have changed her plans to give them a pat on the back.
Gee a VOLCANO is about to blow in Alaska, might be critical need for the Governor of ALASKA to be there soon.
Just saying he is no Conservative.
These last years of the lesser of evils B/C has done real well for the country, hasn't it?
Do the name Frist ring a bell?
That's what touchy feely Rinopublicans get you, and that's when they ran things!
He is a God Dam Wimp and in WAY over his Head here.
