The owner, a long time republican, came out for Obama early on. Publicly supported Obama.
This is the same man that the Rooney Rule is named after.
The rule that says every team must interview a black man to be head coach.
Nuff said.

Steelers Owner Dan Rooney Endorses Obama By Katherine, Precinct 1227 - Apr 14th, 2008 at 8:08 pm EDT Also listed in: 7 groups mybarackobama.com Monday, April 14, 2008 3:29 PM
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney on Monday endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's presidential bid. In a statement, the 75-year-old Rooney said endorsing political candidates is not something he regularly does. "As a grandfather and a citizen of this community, I think Barack Obama's thoughtful, strategic approach is important to America," Rooney said. "When I hear how excited young people seem to be when they talk about this man, I believe he will do what is best for them, which is to inspire them to be great Americans." The Obama campaign said the Illinois senator and Rooney met Monday after Obama spoke at a meeting of the Alliance for American Manufacturing. Obama's Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, also addressed the gathering. Last month, former Steelers running backs Franco Harris and Jerome Bettis also endorsed Obama. http://newsmax.com/insidecover/obama_rooney/2008/04/14/87798.html

Okay, somebody splain to me why Rooney just thanked President Obama? Rooney is about to be named ambassador to Ireland this week.
No, I'm not kidding. It's been in the works.

The rest of the Rooney family is anti-Obama and upset at Dan Rooney’s advocacy. Tom Rooney, Dan’s nephew, is the new Republican congressman in FL-16, defeated Tim Mahoney.

I know. Rooney was heard saying, “ By the Power of O, the Steelers won.. I can’t thank him enough, and hopefully, he’s still in power for the next 8 years so we can win the next 8 SB.”

I thought Rush was a close friend of Rooney.

OOPS I am not the football fan as you can tell. I prefer baseball and hockey. So you don't like real sports. That's OK, no one here will judge you harshly.
