THIS is the astonishing picture which could destroy the career of the greatest competitor in Olympic history.
In our exclusive photo Michael Phelps, who won a record EIGHT gold medals for swimming at the Beijing games last summer, draws from a bong.
The glass pipes are generally used to smoke cannabis.
And after sporting chiefs announced laws which mean four-year bans for drug-taking, Phelps dreams of adding to his overall 14 gold medal tally at the 2012 games in London could already be OVER.
GOLDEN BOY: Phelps at Beijing Those dreams seemed the last thing on his mind when he puffed from the bong during two days of partying with students last November, a quiet time in the swimming calendar when athletes would not expect to get tested for drugs.
One party-goer who witnessed the stars behaviour told the News of the World: He was out of control from the moment he got there.
If he continues to party like that Id be amazed if he ever won any more medals again.
Phelps aides went into a panic over our story and offered us a raft of extraordinary incentives not to run the bong picture.

How very sad in so very many ways.
So, he was pictured with a pipe and that negates everything he’s ever done and everything he hopes to do in his life? Give me a break.
Well he could always become a DemocRAT and say he didn’t inhale.
If it’s true he can be President.
Hmmm...it doesn't look like him.
So what?
If he continues to promote the lifestyle of a pothead they should take his gold medals away.
Thank goodness it wasn’t a cigarette or cigar. Some people might be really upset then.
Cannot take those away, but there goes millions in endorsement advertisement. However, he may have a future promoting surf boards for beach bum pot heads.
Well it could certainly seriously damage his value for advertising.
Maybe Michael can start a new Rap music career with Joaquin Phoenix.
They can call themselves the Bong Brothers.
Check the comments below the story. Must be free internet day at the rehab center.
Could they really ban him if he doesn’t fail a drug test? And if swimming is like wrestling, national team members are always subject to drug testing.
Michael Phelps means nothing to me, and if he wants to use marijuana, oh well. Stupid is as stupid does.
However, if the rules for competition are “no drug use ever,” then (if this is really he) he shouldn’t be allowed to compete any more. With no actual drug charges on his record, he should be able to get a real job.
Doesn’t like him to me either.
“If he continues to promote the lifestyle of a pothead they should take his gold medals away.”
So, in your opinion when an olympic athlete wins a medal, that medal comes with a guarantee that the athlete will live his/her life in a way that meets your approval? When they don’t meet your approval, then they should forfeit their medals that they earned fairly, from dedication, hard work, and some natural talent.
He isn’t promoting anything. Notice how he isn’t facing the camera? Someone else is promoting this lifestyle, and using Phelps to do it.
“destroy the career”
R U kidding me?
We have a foreign potus who smokes now, smoked pot and crack, is playing BOHIC with the muzzies, the world is ganging up on Israel, new jobs are scarce, and people are going to get their panties in a bunch over a glass pipe?
Go have a beer, watch the Super Bowl tomorrow and let’s not be so quick to condemn. It plays right into the whole PC, ordering people how to act thing.
No, it doesn’t negate everything he has ever done. Hopefully, it doesn’t negate everything he hopes to do in his life. That will be up to him in many ways.
He’s about to find that the path before him won’t be as smooth now, because of others who hope to profit from his mistakes.
