And the situation may get much worse. Accuweather.com is predicting a Monster of a Storm to hit the east on Monday and Tuesday. Possible blizzard conditions on the west side of the Appalachians. Right now water is difficult to find in some of these communities due to power outages. If you add blizzard conditions on top of that it could develop some serious situations.

Groundhog Day Monster Storm

I am in Louisville. I am putting out Refugee Updates on the Canteen Thread of the day.

Louisville is a total disaster - lines down, trees down, neighborhoods with only one lane in and out. Some businesses are up and running, but every hotel is full, either by power crews, or refugees.

My mother lives in Clarkson, KY. I haven’t been able to reach her. The phone lines are down. I called my sister who lives in Louisville and she had talked to her Tuesday night. Neither one of them have electricity. I’m in North Carolina and praying she’s okay. What a mess!

I've lived here in Western KY all my life and have never seen anything like it. Even the big ice storm of 1994 can't compete with this one. It's just flat out surreal...dead silence interrupted by the sound of falling trees and shattering ice. Crazy!

The good thing is that people are taking care of each other and not waiting for FEMA to help. There's some good hearted, tough people around here and things will work out.

On a somber note there was a decorated Army Veteran (76 year old) that died this morning from CO poisoning. He had bought a new generator to power his home and was afraid of someone steeling it so he put it in his utility room with the window barely cracked. Unfortunately, the CO got him. RIP.

I’ve been watching this all day. It will be similar to 1993 yet not as intense.

So this Bambi’s Katrina. How’s he handling it? Where’s the press on all this? There are a million Americans shivering in the dark. Where’s the outrage?

What kept us warm when the power went out was that we had gas logs in the fireplace. If anything, we could sleep in the family room and not freeze to death.

Did Kentucky vote for Soetoro? I need to know, so I can know whether to feel sorry for them or not.

I just talked (by cell phone) to a friend in Louisville. They have been without power a few days, and I invited them to get on I-75 (which is probably cleared) and down, about 3 1/2 hours to my house in Tennessee. I have a warm, comfortable guest house for them to stay in when this new storm moves in.

All this ice went just north of us. We had rain when Kentucky got ice. Today it was beautiful weather here, spring like. I live on the Tennessee/Kentucky border.

And Enterprise, I agree, where is FEMA? When the evil Bush sent the hurricane Katrina to Louisiana to kill all those people the press was blaming him before it hit. The weather servive predicted (like Katrina) this storm, and the one coming.

Amazing, isn’t it, the difference in the press coverage of these natural weather events?

We were without power the 27th and got it back for just six hours on the 28th. Out again till about 7:00 this evening.

We got lots of lamps and extra oil, city water and natural gas with two bottles propane for back up. Plenty of food. We weathered the storm good.

Lots of broken trees, branches and plenty of ice. today it warmed up and the ice began to fall off the trees, making it hazardous to walk around.

A great public works program would be to bury as much of the power grid as possible. If the government wants to throw money around I can’t think of a better project.

Photobucket This is my backyard from 2007 ice storm in MO.

This was just the first day of crashing limbs. It was much worse. I feel so bad for those that are living through the ice and cold now.

Luckily, we had a generator that we bought for Y2K. It was well worth it. Plugged our furnace into it and had heat, tv, fridge, and lights. Unfortunately we didn't have water (well).
