PADUCAH, Ky. – Storm-battered residents of several states hunkered down in frigid homes and shelters Thursday, expecting to spend at least a week without power and waiting in long lines to buy generators, firewood, groceries and bottled water.

"I have a warm, comfortable guest house for them to stay in when this new storm moves in."

Things are ok here in Kaleefornia but hell, with that description here I come!

Photobucket This is my backyard from 2007 ice storm in MO.

This was just the first day of crashing limbs. It was much worse. I feel so bad for those that are living through the ice and cold now.

Luckily, we had a generator that we bought for Y2K. It was well worth it. Plugged our furnace into it and had heat, tv, fridge, and lights. Unfortunately we didn't have water (well).

Got a question for you about those jet streams that are colliding this weekend. In general, do the jet streams develop the primary boundaries between Tropical, Temperate and Arctic climate zones ? I don't read freep email so if you can answer, please post on this thread.

When the winds from Hurricane Ike went through L’ville this past summer my sister-in-law’s neighbor resorted to a generator in the driveway (they let SIL run an extension cord to it). One evening the lights suddenly went out and the generator stopped. They went out to see what was up and saw the taillights of a pickup going down the street.

Our generator is on the patio and with all the limbs down around the house there is no way way to it right now except through the house. Unless of course someone wants to cut their way to it. The latest we heard here in Hardin county was up to two weeks without power.

I figure I now have ten or so years of firewood in the yard here in E’town. All I need is the time with the chainsaw and there is no way I am going to pay someone what the local trimmers charge to do the work. I will also lay claim to the trees from the neighbors who are now on my side of the fence. Funny how they always fall my way in every storm and never mine falling in to there yards.

We had a small tornado go through here in 1994 that took some of our roof, but that was mild compared to this. I figure we will be on generator for at least another week to 10 days.

Thanks for the offer. I received an email from my sister this morning. She went and got her yesterday and Mom is with an aunt. God bless you for your kind heart for someone you don’t know.

My prayers to you all that are caught in this. I hope you realize I was being sarcastic about the obamination’s “shovel ready” promise to the solar/wind freaks to change our energy structure. I was being sarcastic about the idiotic fantasy called Gorebull Warming foisted on us by that laid-off snake oil salesman, Al Gore.

I truly hope that the ordinary working men and women slaving away to get the power restored, can do so in very short order.

I'm glad to hear that your mom is okay.

My offer is nothing more than I hope and pray that someone would do for me and my mom in a similar situation. Fortunately, my mom is here with me, getting ready for another chilly day.

You can’t plug the pump into the generator? That’s what my brothers do, and they fill bottles and the bathtub.

Kentucky did vote for faux-bama so he is not going to be concerned about whether we have what we need or not. Anyway, Kentuckians have a history of taking care of themselves and each other, so stick Oby.

If nothing else, try calling the fire department. They’re good about checking on older folks.

Absolutely, you are right about the fire dept. My husband, daughter and son in law are all involved with the fire dept. in our county and they are paramedics as well. They have been extremely busy lately but, if you call, they will come, they are very committed people. Keep the faith.

Well I am personally shocked! Bamster should have AF1 land in Kentucky, and personally direct FEMA on how to do their jobs. Tell them to tote that barge and lift that bale.

I’m in Nicholasville, Ky and it looks like Narnia! My son-in-law waited in line at Home Depot for hours to get a generator.
My question to Algore is, “where is the global warming you promised?” It’s cold..I’m going to send Algore my utility bill this month.
