Obama, allies move stimulus fight into high gear WASHINGTON (AFP) – After a failed "charm offensive," US President Barack Obama and his allies unleashed a hard-hitting campaign Thursday to break defiant Republicans' thus-far united opposition to his economic stimulus plan.

The strategy called for millions of labor union members to telephone Republicans from hard-hit states, coupled with an aggressive television advertising campaign targeting potentially vulnerable Republican senators.

The ad featured Obama's warnings about the economic crisis he inherited from George W. Bush and invited viewers in Maine, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Iowa to tell their senators "support the Obama plan for jobs not the failed policies of the past," according to the script.

Interesting—I’ve received *3* phone calls from [mumblemumblegroup] since yesterday wanting to do phone polls—with babies yelling in the background I’ve begged off. Wonder if this is the source of the ‘pollsters’?

Wow! Such breathless word smith-ing!

"unleashed"

"hard-hitting"

"defiant"

This is truly copy worthy of the 1940's. What next? News boys standing on street corners hawking papers saying, "Extra! Extra! Read all about it! President Obama takes on the repubs! Unleashes hard-hitting campaign to knock sense into blundering thugs!"?

I have to go lie down . . . .

LOL how about the 11 Democrats that rejected the bill... The only thing Bi-Partisan about the bill was its rejection...

Republicans can either stand on their Principles or give in to complete failure and defeat.

As the Democrats want to hand out nets filled with fish for masses for the Republicans This is a teach a man to fish moment.

It took Republicans two months longer in 1993 to figure out the Clinton’s, a full year to figure out Jimmy Carter in 1977.

Excellent point.

This degree of resistance, this early in an administration is highly unusual.

And heartily applauded!

Thanks.

That the Obama administration is going nuclear, this early, speaks volumes.

(San Francisco – 12/29/08) In a statement issued today to be run in tomorrows NYTimes, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said this in regard to the implementation of Barack Obamas social and economic reforms: “It is without question the new Democratically controlled Congress and Senate need the support of Republicans in bringing a new dawn to America after 8 years in the abyss.

It would be absolutely irresponsible for Democrats to pass these reforms, enabling Americans to get back to work, Universal Health Care and needless and overly costly programs without the support of Republicans.” “

The main problem is, Democrats can of course pass these with no help or support from the now majorly minority party, but in the unlikely event things were to go horribly wrong, the Democrats would have no one to blame but themselves and normal Americans would point their finger squarely at us. If at least 1 Republican joins in the effort to enact reforms, we would then have the other party to point the finger at.

It’s a simple numbers game really, we desperately need their support so we can use it as a method to shift blame.” When asked why they just didn’t enact everything without support from across the aisle, Pelosi said, “I never said we wouldn't and we will gladly take full credit should things work out, but, this is America. Never, ever take personal or party responsibility when things go wrong and can be successfully blamed on someone else.”

So maybe we should all send this to our Senators along with a letter stating how vigorously we will oppose their reelction and campaign for the one running against them. Tell them we need strong Republican leaders that actually represent the people that voted for them

Barack “Tom Sawyer” Obama tried to convince the House Republicans that painting the fence is wonderful fun, but is now angry that they didn’t fall for it. He didn’t want help - he wanted Republican fingerprints on it when it fails in its stated goal to revive the economy but succeeds in its hidden goal of socializing the country.

I think it's time for the Fish Slapping Dance, with Republicans playing the part of John Cleese! Might have more of an impact on HolyO and his ilk in Congress! LOL!

The GOP needs to keep in mind that when you’re at the bottom, there is no place t go but up. If they stand their ground, they may get a hand up, if they fold, they are dead.
