Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."
Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.
"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."
"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

I expect we’ll be making a donation of most of the chocolate chips, eventually. Since Susan ordered them, I’ll put her in charge of finding a recipient, probably a nursing home.
She’s letting you know she has to go, but trying also to let you know it’s not her choice.
Will she let you hold her? If so, it could be good for both of you.
We’re here.
And the nursing home will be most grateful, I’m sure!!!
I am home. For a couple of months, it appears.
I've been invited to speak at a conference in Denver mid-April (this is not as big a thing as it sounds, I'll be one of the speakers on one of several parallel topic tracks), and right after that I'm hoping to represent my company at a technical event in Helsinki.
Only hoping at this point, though -- I learned that the new occupant of my American boss' position is likely to be announced next week and that person is going to have to learn a bit about us, our products, directions and industry before he/she could approve this. And under our current travel regime somebody new is likely to say no.
She did let me hold her for awhile while I was trying to feed her, then after I left the room for a minute I found her in the closet.
I’ll try again later today. I want to give her as much “me” time as possible for the next few days; she and I have been through alot together.
That is very sad, Sandy.
Susan and I can probably split the cost: I’ll write her a tax receipt, and she can write me one!
Wellden.
I’m glad you’re back.
Valentine’s Day is always good for family stuff!
And you can lay aside the thoughts of your next trip for a while!
Her kidneys are okay, although she’s dehydrated. She has a liver condition caused by not eating. I forget the name of the disorder, but kitties with whatever this is become anorexic. The more they refuse to eat the worse it gets.
The only other option is hospitalization and a feeding tube. I’m not doing that to her.
Holding her as long as you can will be a tender moment, but one you will be able to hold with your heart.
Sometimes, animals hide when they die because of shame. They don’t like for their owners to see them so weak and ill. All you can do is reassure her it’s OK.
*snif-snif*
Yes, it is. Not entirely unexpected at her age, but still. She’s my favorite girl.
Oh, too bad. And I agree, “heroic measures” for a pet in very old age are just cruel.
Well, (un)fortunately not because it's looking like an ever-busier year for travel. I'll likely be speaking at some event or another in New Orleans and maybe Baton Rouge LA, and Birmingham AL, in one of our regional sales manager's (RSMs) regions, 3 to 6 months hence. The Denver talk is likely to get me more speaking slots in the Western US, including Alaska.
But for now I have a ton of work for the week ahead, including preparation homework for a class I'm taking Thu & Fri. And I have to go analyze the porculus bill... *\8^(
Are you ever NOT busy?
Well, yes, actually, but the workload is "bursty" -- it's either way too much for the time I have available, or there's little and the in-basket runs to empty. Before these last 3 trips it was the latter, but porculus got dumped atop everything else I'd planned for the next few days. Have to get a running start at it this weekend.
But hey, it beats the past four years when the in-basket never emptied, and some of the assignments I'm getting are good for promoting & keeping my "new" job. Life is not bad! *\8^)
:o])
I’d rather be busy than idle. There are always ways to fill my time!
Busy is good, too many too-short deadlines is not.
Been there, too!
When I had days like that, I would feel as if I were suffocating. *shudder*
Yah. I’m in that mode right now.
Off to the office. Have to return the borrowed laptop...
