Un-Olbermann? Matthews Gives Republicans Reasonable Shake

Has Chris Matthews [file photo] recuperated from that bad case of restless leg? The last couple Hardball episodes give reason to hope so. As I noted here, on yesterday’s show Matthews took Dem congressman Bob Wexler to task for his defense [echoing Nancy Pelosi] of inclusion of family planning funds in the stimulus bill. Matthews saw shades of China’s one-child policy, skeptically asking: “why should the federal government have a policy of reducing the number of births?” By today, that funding was gone from the bill, as Pres. Obama apparently told Rep. Henry Waxman to deep-six it.

On this evening’s Hardball, Matthews aired two segments in which both guests were Republicans or conservatives. That’s a total of four Republicans/conservatives—more in one show than Keith Olbermann has likely racked up in the last year.

matthews has plans to be a big time plans in D.C.

He wants to be a mover and shaker and knows that PA has a large number of confused voters who often pretend they lean right.

maybe he is just playing the same game he played back during the Clinton years - ginning up his ratings by playing to the Republicans. Now that O sits in the Oval Office, and so many in the country have figured out just exactly how biased he was in this last election, he has decided to give the R’s a few crumbs ever now and then, hopefully getting a few viewers back. Count me out.

I’ve uploaded video now at FinkelBlog. I understand people’s skepticism, but would encourage them to check out the video. Matthews amiable attitude toward Republicans is in stark contrast to the bitterly partisan tone he took during the campaign.

At the same time Matthews is beginning to suspect that he helped elect a guy straight out of Beavis and Butthead.

That's gotta' worry him, particularly the sexual inuendo stuff ~ 'cause he's a "target" type person.

He used to give McCain the fairest shake of all when President Bush was in office.

Matthew’s leg tingle has been getting a lot of bad press lately from Bernie Goldberg, who’s been suggesting that Chrissy has a “man crush” on Obama while out hyping his laterst book “A Slobbering Love Affair” (the press and Obama) - maybe Matthews is finally beginning to understand just how silly he’s looked over the past few months......

Sounds plausible to me.

Matthews petty tirade about President Bush on his last day was truly sickening. I want to ask him if he has ever given his own son anything nice or helped him to get a job. I think Matthews is so jealous of Bush that the personal attacks make him feel better about himself.

. I think Matthews is so jealous of Bush that the personal attacks make him feel better about himself...this is probably a big part of the problem. I also think much of the Bush Derangement Syndrome derived from the fact that so many on the left consider themselves to be so, so superior to the rest of us mere mortals - more intelligent, more moral, more sensitive etc etc etc - and it was insulting and demeaning in their minds for them to have to follow the lead of a "cowboy" like Bush (or to comtemplate the possibility of having a commoner like Sarah Palin as leader). Their nastiness and belittling of Bush, Palin, and other unworthies serves to remind themselves just how superior they really are.....

Please....
These scumbags are all full of courtesy and grace now that the Republicans have no power whatsoever.

“fairness” is not something I will ever associate with Chris Matthews.... if he offers a pretence of fairness it’s simply b/c he may have realized that a strong steady diet of rabid Moonbat-ism will eventually turn off all but 20-30% of the voting public.

I think he’s just getting ready to try to salvage the Democrat Party from the Moonbats before it gets even more out of hand.

The only way anybody could possibly consider Matthews “fair” is by comparing him to Olbermann. Sort of like “Mussolini wasn’t as bad as Hitler”.
