Tim Geithner confirmed (with GOP support)
The GOP Wilderness ^ | January 27, 2009 | The GOP Willderness

Posted on 01/27/2009 5:51:54 AM PST by bmweezer

Tim Geithner is Obama's new treasury secretary, after being confirmed 60-34 last evening in the U.S. Senate. In the end, it appears that Geithner's nomination received nominal GOP support thanks to two points: first, there was no telling who Geithner's replacement would have been (they could have been worse) if the confirmation was derailed and two, some GOPers remain spineless. Until our elected GOP members gain a spine and realize that their place right now is as a strong opposition and oppose bad nominations and bills, the party's troubles will certainly continue.

Thirty-two Republicans voted against the nomination (as well as Democratic Senators Byrd, Feingold, and Harkin), while the following gave a firm 'yea':

Corker, Cornyn, Crapo, Ensign, Graham, Gregg, Hatch, Shelby, Snowe, and Voinovich.

Kudos go to the following GOPers that one would not think would have voted against this nomination, but did: Collins, Lugar, McCain, and Specter.

Glad this vote was on party lines.

The Dhimmirats have just said that they believe that their elite leadership is above the law.

This albatross should be pointed out loudly and continually.

Most people are afraid of the IRS, and seeing someone get appointed as head of the IRS that committed a crime that the rest of us would have served time for will resonate with the folks.

Now, the law of unintended consequences kicks in ~ I'm putting in my request with Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb to submit a private bill to give me an exception for timely payment of my next $34,000 in federal taxes for 4 years.

I will publish their answers here. Should be a laugh riot ~ I'm already snorking and hocking myself!

Yes, I agree. I figured to see one of my Senators, Lugar, voting for this tax dodger. At least Lugar cancelled out my other Senator, Bayh.

No kidding. I think he’s lost his damn mind if he did. And IF he did, he’s lost my vote. 3 strikes and you’re out.

This is the right guy at the right time???

He was President of the New York fed and did not see the debacle coming.

The pick had to be someone as close to Goldman Sachs as you can get without having been at Goldman.

Enough Pubbies vote “Nea” so they can pounce when Geithner screws up.

A good sign this early in the game.

well, any taxpayer who made an “innocent mistake” over the past 8 years sure ought to be DEMANDING equal protection and a retroactive return of any IRS interest or penalties they were charged

Once again I'm embarrassed by one of SC’s senators, the almost-indistinguishable-from-a-democrat, Lindsey Graham.

I sent an email yesterday and called his DC office but I guess he either didn't receive enough opposition to this appointment or he simply ignored his constituency................again.............

‘Collins, Lugar, McCain, and Specter.’

They knew he was going to be confirmed, and will cite this forever as an example of how they ‘fought’ the Obama Administration.

Especially when they support the more noxious ideas on domestic policy.

Watch and see. I got no use for these guys.

Lindsey seems hugely embarrassing
and increasingly light in his loafers

not that there’s anything wrong with that!

This is an outrage...and of course they did it at night. I am stunned that Specter voted against him. I am sure the 0bamaOriginalLapDog Bob Casey Jr. voted 'yea.'

So when does the smartest man in the world fix the economy? By Friday? February 1st?

The point is: The (Collins, Lugar, McCain, and Specter) voted correctly THIS time.

Give credit where credit's due.

I think he (Paulson) is at Home Depot, buying supplies so he can “flip” all those houses he bought back in October.

Anyone remember how the MSM screamed about Joe the Plumber possibly owing back taxes? Wonder where their great concern went to...

Great leadership fellas.
