Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said Sunday that there will be an "uptick" in American casualties in Afghanistan as the U.S. military increases its presence in that country, which he characterized as "a real mess."
The vice president's prediction prompted outrage from liberal antiwar groups who characterized it as "cavalier," although a leading scholar at a Washington neoconservative think tank called the Biden remarks an overdue recognition of reality.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai foreshadowed other difficulties Sunday with any "surge" of U.S. forces into his country, condemning a U.S. operation he said killed 16 Afghan civilians and demanding greater Afghan control of U.S. military operations.

At a Sept. 9, fundraiser, Biden addressed his national security credentials by talking about "the superhighway of terror between Pakistan and Afghanistan where my helicopter was forced down. John McCain wants to know where bin Laden and the gates of Hell are? I can tell him where. That's where al-Qaida is. That's where bin Laden is."
"It went pretty blind, pretty fast and we were around some pretty dangerous ridges," Kerry told The Associated Press afterward. "So the pilot exercised his judgment that we were better off putting down there, and we all agreed."
"We sat up there and traded stories," Kerry joked. "We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn't have to do it."
He added: "Other than getting a little cold, it was fine."
Takes a coward like Joe Biden to scare our troops and their loved ones just before sending them in on a surge. Biden is a idiot. We have military missions, not suicide missions.

There must have been a dozen better ways to say this rather than the way he said it.
Many of us have sons & daughters in the service. To just matter of factly state the obvious in the harsh manner he did was ridiculous.
Senator Biden, get a clue. You don’t have to answer questions that lend hurt to military families in that manner.

Dead U.S. Soldiers mean NOTHING when Democrats are in charge. They could have a 1,000 die in a month, and the media will still tell us aout the GREAT, fantastic, unbelievably good job the dems are doingin running the war!
