Hey she's a mother of two, just having given birth while serving. She's a gun owner from a family of hunters and gun owners. She's, for a Dem, socially and fiscally conservative. Sound like anybody we at FR know?

She's liberal and if you are implying that she sounds like Sarah Palin then you don't know what you are talking about.

She sounds a hell of lot more conservative than Juan McCain and that sassy southern belle Miss Lindsay Graham-nesty.

I bet she does not have cankles like Hillary. Kudos for Gov Patterson who is obviously blind to racism verus Barrack “no white male construction workers” Obama.

Do you think a NY Dem could tell the difference between Palin and Gillinbrand? I live and work with them and I can tell you they are beside themselves over this. Gillinbrand is more favorable than most NY RINOS like Rudy. The only wellknown GOPers to her right are Pete King and John Faso. So. being a NYer, I’ll take what i can get.

Meet the dim answer to Gov. Palin. Actually I think that if she maintains her pro-2nd Amend stance and tacks to the center on other issues, she could be quite formidable.

Rudy is about 50% conservative, Gillibrand is about 8% conservative. Gillinbrand is NOT more favorable than Rudy Giulliani and other similar NYS RINOS.

Honestly, it's beliefs like the one you state above that will keep us conservatives wondering in the wilderness.

I disagree, Peter King is anti-gun and pro-IRA. She is much better than King and I will vote for her in 2010 if the GOP choice is King.

as long as she has a A+ 100% NRA rating, I will vote for her over King who gets a D from the NRA and King is an IRA supporters. Rudy is anti-gun and pro-choice.

Gillibrand has described her own voting record as “one of the most conservative in the state.” She opposes any path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, supports renewing the Bush tax cuts for individuals earning up to $1 million annually, and voted for the Bush-backed FISA bill that permits wiretapping of international calls. She was one of four Democratic freshmen in the country, and the only Democrat in the New York delegation, to vote for the Bush administration's bill to extend funding for the Iraq war shortly after she entered congress in 2007

You know you sound like the RINO here. NY GOP needs to get their $h!t together or they will lose out to Blue Dog Democrats.

Gillibrand has described her own voting record as “one of the most conservative in the state.”

LOL! Gillibrand misrepresents her own voting record. As I pointed out conservative groups give her about and 8% conservative rating.

She opposes any path to citizenship for illegal immigrants,

She talks one way and votes another way. Gillibrand voted against HR 2638 which was an amendment to the Homeland security bill that would have accelerated the construction of the border fence.

...supports renewing the Bush tax cuts for individuals earning up to $1 million annually,

She had a chance to reduce taxes for middle class two income earners and she failed. She voted against HR3996 the Alternative Minimum Tax Adjustment. She's all talk and no action.

She was one of four Democratic freshmen in the country, and the only Democrat in the New York delegation, to vote for the Bush administration's bill to extend funding for the Iraq war shortly after she entered congress in 2007

She voted for it before she voted against it. She voted for HConRes 63, a resolution opposing the “surge” of 20,000 additional troops into Iraq. She voted for HR 2237 a bill that would have required the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq within 180 days.

You know you sound like the RINO here. NY GOP needs to get their $h!t together or they will lose out to Blue Dog Democrats.

She also voted pro hate crime protection(HR 1592), anti secret union ballots(HR3043), anti missile defense(HR 1585), anti religious freedom(HR 1429), anti 1st Amendment(HR 18), anti offshore Natural Gas Development(HR3093), pro minimum wage increase(HR 2), pro stem cell government funding(HR 3), pro funding for international family planning organizations that perform or promote abortions(HR 2764), pro tax funding of planned parenthood(HR 3043), pro ban on incandescent light bulbs(HR3221), pro government funding of the construction, rehabilitation and preservation of “affordable” housing for low-income families(HR 2895) pro expansion of Medicare(HR 976)...I could go on.

I criticize her and her 92% liberal voting record and you call me a "RINO"?

It's dupes like you who keep conservatives wondering in the wilderness.

the 2nd amendment protects all the rest.

You can vote for a IRA supporter/ Anti-gun type like King or an Anti-gun/ pro lifer like Rudy if you like. but from where I stand that is NOT conservative.

>> A much better person for the seat than Caroline. She’s a Blue Dog Democrat. Pro-second Amendment, Pro-border control, Pro-tax cuts, Pro-military. Of course, Peter King would have been my choice, too, but I am happy enough when I think of what we ALMOST got! <<

I'm really surprised Patterson went with Kristin Gillibrand. Seems like the last person a socialist Dem machine candidate would want. It's also the kind of pick I'd make if I was Governor of NY and someone put a gun to my head and forced me to select a RAT replacement for Hillary. I'd pick the most obscure moderate upstate (as far away from NYC as possible) Dem with as little seniority as possible from a heavy GOP district to ensure we regain that Congressional seat once she's out of it. Gillibrand probably fits that criteria more than any other NY Dem. She's not even that "moderate", she's just moderate by marxist NYC Dem standards (had to be to win in a district that's voted Republican for decades), which is causing them to throw a fit.

Come to think of it, if someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a well known Chicago machine RAT to replace Obama in the Senate, my first choice would have been Roland Burris as well (with his delusional narcissism, bland personality, being out of office for 14 years, and having a Jim Oberweis type track record in winning elections). Are these RAT governors channeling my mind, or what? ;-)

The only logical thing (from a Dem standpoint of wanting to ensure a Dem Senate win in 2010) that may have went through Patterson's mind with this pick is that Gillibrand is indisputably pro-gun (100% rating from the NRA), whereas King is indisputably a gun-grabber (D ratings from the NRA and big fat F's from the GOA). This flips one of the most loyal conservative constituencies from rallying around the Republican candidate to supporting the Dem instead. King is still more conservative than Gillibrand overall, but if she's truly Pro-border control, Pro-tax cuts, and Pro-military, it instantly neutralizes the three "good" areas where the otherwise RINOish Peter King can claim loyal Republican support. The only thing that's left for the conservative base is that King is pro-life and Gillibrand is pro-abortion, but single-issue pro-life campaigns have never done well in NY.

I used to think that any Republican was better than any Democrat...Then, along came Shays and Chaffee and too many others and the two Assembly Rinos who represent us in NJ and regularly vote against the RKBA. I think the fact that she’s for an issue I care deeply about is great! I like Peter King but I want to see his 2nd Amendment bona fides before I support him. Besides, she’s a babe!

He made a better choice than I expected. She is better than any of the other candidates the media mentioned. We should be glad it is not a Kennedy or a Clinton - some in the media actually suggested Bill.

Unbelievable.

What is ironic about your statement is that Gillibrand is the single conservative issue candidate.

Gillibrand appears to be a chubby little blond. Her speech was really dippy.

Do I see a pattern here?

The outrage is all staged. I have seen a couple Dem stategists already trying to call her the Sarah Palin of the left.

More like Nancy Pelosi with a gun.
