New York Gov. David Paterson will name Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, an upstate Democrat, to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, a Democratic official with knowledge of the governor's decision told FOX News on Thursday night.

Gillibrand, elected in 2006, represents the state's 20th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is the first Democrat to represent the district since 1978 -- and the first female representative of the district.

Paterson is scheduled to formally announce his pick Friday

I’ll believe it when I see it. For now, Peter King has my vote.

I wont vote for an Anti-gunner or an IRA supporter.

a New York Republican might just as well be a Democrat anyway, think Lincoln Chaffee, Susan Collins, or Olympia Snow.

beside that 2010 will bring back enough REAL republicans, from reddish states to remove any chance of a super majority in the Senate.

The upside is that we won’t have another elitist lefty in the senate (Kennedy) the Republicans can win Gillibrand’s house seat if they find a decent candidate (it’s an R +3 district), but the downside is that Gillibrand could be harder to defeat in 2010. Time will tell.

very selective in their pro-gun votes

People such as that do not get 100% NRA ratings.

Great choice. As a resident in the 20th Cong. dist., I strongly supported and voted for her in 2006 and 2008.

BTW, I am a strong Repub. supporter. Kirsten is as close to a Repub. as one may expect from a Demo.

she could mess things up for the next 6 years

Clinton's seat is up for re-election in 2012.

Congresswoman Gillibrand grew up in a family of hunters and strongly supports the rights of all hunters and gun owners. She has been an ardent opponent of legislation that will curb the Second Amendment for responsible gun owners and currently has a 100% voting record with the National Rifle Association (NRA). As a Member of the Agriculture Committee, she sponsored an amendment to the Farm Bill that will expand public.

THIS, folks, is a miracle from G-d.

“She voted against the bailout last fall and she is a second amendment supporter too, a much better pick than Kennedy. “

Given some of the alterantives we ought to be thankful she was the pick.

Clinton's seat is up for re-election in 2012.

BUT:
she has to be voted in, in a special election in 2010 to finish out the remainder of Clinton's term.

So you have the fat Sergeant Major representing you? What are the republicans doing about finding a qualifed combat veteran to run against him?

Let’s wiat and see if she crumbles under Harry Reid’s leadership before we start celebrating. If she is a legitamite DINO then I would have some major reservations about tryin to vote her out. It would save the NRSC boatloads of cash by not trying to bump off a more conservative candidate than Peter King.

“Seems like an odd pick for New York State. A Democrat who acts more like a Republican than Republicans do.”

It means they think she can hold the seat for the Dems in future elections, despite the conservative leanings of the district. I just hope she votes consistently against her leadership.

Didn’t she just have a baby last spring? What a terrible mother. Plus I hear she likes guns... prob so she can hunt down blacks & jews. We better hack into her personal emails, call her children’s cell phones, and photoshop pictures of her onto bikini-clad models’ bodies.

For open House seats there must be a special election. Governors cannot apoint. That is a senatorial hangover from the days of state legislatures appointing senators. The House is the Peoples House and the people of the Hudson Valley will decide.

See the howls from NY Dems over Gillenbrand's brand of Dem politics. I venture that they'll petition Harry Reid to deny her the seat.

Hey she's a mother of two, just having given birth while serving. She's a gun owner from a family of hunters and gun owners. She's, for a Dem, socially and fiscally conservative. Sound like anybody we at FR know?

Then you know why the Dems hate her.
