New York Gov. David Paterson will name Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, an upstate Democrat, to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, a Democratic official with knowledge of the governor's decision told FOX News on Thursday night.

Gillibrand, elected in 2006, represents the state's 20th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is the first Democrat to represent the district since 1978 -- and the first female representative of the district.

Paterson is scheduled to formally announce his pick Friday

If this article is not a red herring, my instinct tells me that Obammie the Commie has him slotted for a position.

Her seat had been Republican from 1978 till 2006. It’s a very conservative district.

Was it that hard to predict, I hate to gloat:

For the people who live to profile, but insist they don’t, there is only one perfect choice -they can’t help themselves. You can not get closer than this without resorting to genetic cloning:

NY Congressman Kirsten Gillibrand (D, NY)

She got in in 2006. Upstater who benefited from the GOP slaughter that year.
True, but she benefited more from Sweeney's idiocy. Frankly, Sweeney committed political suicide, largely due to alcohol. In April 2006, went drinking at a frat party at union college. In October, his wife filled a domestic violence report, parts of which were published the Albany Times Union the day before the election.
In November 2007, Sweeney was arrested for DWI. Currently, he and his wife are being investigated for her possible sham job at the lobbying firm of William Powers.(Since Powers was the former head of the state GOP, I don't think he need to buy Sweeney)

“She’s about the best we could have hoped for. Better than a Kennedy or a Cuomo.”

An NRA endorsed Democratic Senator from New York. Amazing.

“I don’t know. I would imagine Pattrson will pick her replacement.”

Governors never appoint members of the House of Representatives. They are all elected in regular and special elections.

how will it play out in the NY legislature

The legislature is irrelevant, the appointment is up to the governor alone.

Gillibrand is a ‘reformed’ Big Tobacco Lawyer.

Seems like an odd pick for New York State. A Democrat who acts more like a Republican than Republicans do.

I hope this is a trend for the future of the Democratic Party.

The GOP should have gotten a ‘scandal free’ candidate to oppose Sweeney. We could have held on to that seat.

“She voted against the bailout last fall and she is a second amendment supporter too”

Already she’s better than more than half the GOPers in the Senate already.

We’ll see how well she stands up to liberal pressure to reverse her positions, though.

Currently, the 20th CD is a a Republican-leaning district. This was Gilman’s district before Sweeney. The problem is that Sweeney committed political suicide and Alexander Treadwell, well don’t get me started on Sandy’s foolishness.

I'm thinking that they're making a concerted effort to short-circuit a destructive element (rabid anti-gunners) in the Dem Party so they won't have a 1994-style repeat in 2010.

Maybe. But we lost the 14th CD in State Island this year after Vito’s indiscretions.

Gillibrand was re-elected to a second term in the sprawling 20th District by a comfortable margin. To do so, she has taken some conservative positions, including on gun rights.

So if she is that pro-NRA & pro-conservationist, why is she aligned with the democRAT socialist-fascist-communist party of the USSA that is doing everything it can to destroy the 2nd Amendment & eradicate private gun ownership???

I have a similar democRAT critter, Tim Waltz in my 1st district MN, who proudly touts his NRA 100% rating but is left-wing socialist commie on everything else. I have called the NRA several times to complain that when they give positive ratings to democRAT so called supporters of the 2nd Amendment, they are confusing the pro-gun electorate and enabling liberal dems to disguise themselves as conservative, pro-gun advocates. That is an outright fabrication, just like Oboombi declaring that he is not going to take our guns away!!! Instead he will leave the dirty work up to gun-haters Rahm Emmanual & Eric Holder.

My opinion is that these so called pro-NRA, pro-gun democRAT socialists like Gillibrand or Waltz or Schuler, etc., are very selective in their pro-gun votes in that they will never really hurt or go against their party's ideology & drive to eradicate all private gun ownership. I don't believe anyone can truly be a supporter of the 2nd amendment (or the rest of the Bill of Rights) and be aligned with the democRAT-socialist party. They are pure unadulterated evil, including any of the so-called conservative democRATs. That is a bygone era, and all that is left now are socialist-fascist-communist democRATs.
