By the way, Churches were the “center” of the city, working closely with whatever the local government was at the time.

Also marriage was used to cement Empires/Countries (See the marriage of Queen Isabella and Prince Ferdinand) the need for order I guess is foreign to some people. Brave new world indeed, refuse to recognize an ongoing institution designed (Ultimately by God) to offer stability in exchange of “hurting” queers feelings, no thanks.

I expected this. After all he probably still fondly recalls those trysts with Larry and the choir guys at good ole boy Rev. Jeramiah Wright's church. Also he's an astute little Marxist student, he knows that destroying the moral fiber of a country it very helpful in achieving his goals. What he doesn't know is that his 5 minutes of fame won't last and Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the real scoundrels will soon be gone. It took a Carter to give us a Reagan. History has a way of repeating itself.

Let me ask you these questions: If (I don't know if your parents are alive or not) one of your parents died and left no will, how can the court judge whether or not you or your surviving parent would get said inheritance if the court is "out of the marriage" business?

Marriage is so woven into human civilization that any attempt to strip it, or construe its definition in such a way as to be foreign to the vast majority of the populous, will end up in the utter destruction of that society.

Also, if the government doesn't recognize marriage, it cannot recognize families. If the government doesn't recognize marriage, it cannot adjudicate insurance payout questions. If the government doesn't recognize marriage, it cannot recognize surviving spouse benefits. If the government doesn't recognize marriage, it doesn't participate in the real world where every culture on earth recognizes the special relationship on earth between a man and a woman (a very small few recognize more than one woman or more than one man but that is so incredibly small). The list goes on and on...

I will go out on a limb here and state the following:

No government has ever existed that has not recognized the special bond of marriage and all that it entitles the man, woman and children to in a court of law in some meaningful way.

The Government of the United States is different in many ways but it builds upon the good things found in past governments one of which is the implicit recognition of marriage and families.

We’re kidding ourselves if we think the population today is anything like the population that elected Reagan.

Speaking of Sen. Byrd, to date no one has been able to explain what made him sick at the luncheon yesterday. But I have my theory.

Sen. Byrd finally realized what all the hubbub is about in this inauguration when President Obama sat down in the BIG chair at the end of the table. You see, the site of the dark-skinned man sitting down there made him throw up a little in his mouth and he HAD to leave!

Just offering a possible answer to the question!

There is even a higher level of this battle than that to which you refer.

The institution of the family, the first human institution, was ordained by God at Creation.

A Father, a Mother, and children make up a family. And that family is the reflection of our relationship with God. As parents train children, so are the parents “trained” in how to relate to their heavenly Father.

This is the main reason that Satan is using the left, and pushing every policy of the left, that is destructive to the family. And, I assert, EVERY policy of the left is destructive to the family.

I would think that President Obama, who happens to be spouting MOST of the same rhetoric and “hopeychangey” things that former President Carter did, would have looked into American history and realized that when President Carter started making drastic changes in his first 100 days in office, even his own party (who were in charge at the time) began to turn their backs on his agenda and it didn’t work very well for him (Carter) and was not a very pleasant things for the rest of us either! I am just saying!

“I’d say The Messiah didn’t pay much attention to how the last Democrat administration started off, nor what resulted 24 months later - the loss of the House of Representatives for the first time in over 40 years.

Now, if they will only come after our guns.....”

Been there done that already.

Isn’t there a bill by Bobby Rush (D-IL) to take away all the guns?

That plus the bill to repeal Presidential terms limits sure makes for warm fuzzies over the future of freedom in America.

Obama’s plans to destroy traditional marriage as we know it are another example of how radical leftwing he is, and yet how out of step the media is, lying to us about who he is and what he represents.

Yep, and those are the seeds for taking back the House in 2010.

If they don’t do stupid things politically, we won’t get the best chance of winning in 24 months.

“If you want to pursue eliminating government civil registration, then go for it ~ ALL THE WAY!!!”

Actually, what I had in mind was determining any necessity for government involvement in, or in your words civil registration of, marriage and then holding the government to that. Small, limited government and all that stuff :)

Just thinking and seeing what discussion turns up.

correct

as far as I am concerned they should seek mental illness.

Sad part is that they are hoping the ignorant will just ignore it by saying well I know two homo’s and they are nice.

course they might be nice to them but when they are with their own kind then the pervertedness and sick acts go on display, The homo’s are playing these people without a doubt.

There is nothing normal in what they do or their agenda.

Obama has a lot to do and he deals with this first, funny how he kept quiet to the black population about this

Put down the crack pipe.

If you want to get a President to do conservative things, you wont get it from a guy whose friends we Ayers, Wright, and Communist Frank Davis Marshall.

“I sall never again throw away my vote to the “better of two choices”.”

So not only are 3rd party voters self-absorbed and inconsequential, they are into rationalizing away their failure to help USA. Sigh.

You've stated the precise opposite of what he will do. Destroying America is job one for "the One".

You are exactly right. I always said he has a huge agenda, the writing was on the wall months ago and he will try to make America as we have known it unrecognizable. The big question is will he be allowed to succeed?

“Come on, you know marriage isn’t what homosexuals are after by now, don’t you?”

I’m not disagreeing with that but one current major push is on the marriage front with an emphasis on “equal rights”. The equal rights argument is largely a farce as homosexuals have the same right to marry as heterosexuals. Either can marry someone of the opposite sex and neither can marry someone of the same sex. (And often neither gets to marry their first choice :) )

The problem is that by virtue of marriage some people have legal rights that unmarried people (homosexual or heterosexual) do not have. That’s because the government at various levels has provided those legal rights.

Get the government out of marriage as far as possible and the problem goes away or at least is lessened.

I believe the institution/custom of marriage predates and exists independant of government, so what should government involvement be and why?
