Obama emphatically promised more than a year ago that "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do." Will Obama keep his word?
The Freedom of Choice Act, or FOCA, is a sweeping bill that would abolish all pro-life regulations across the nation, from parental notification laws to bans on federal funding of abortion. The Office of the General Counsel for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has identified 13 categories of pro-life laws that would be stampeded and nullified by FOCA. As far reaching as the decision of Roe v. Wade is into the states' jurisdictions and our lives, even it, for example, showed certain respects for state laws and limits on infringing regulations in the medical fields. FOCA shows no such restraints, but nails shut the coffin on pro-life choices and safeguards.
And why has Obama pledged his allegiance to pass FOCA? Not only because he has the most passionately liberal pro-choice record of nearly any politician, but, as he told a meeting of Planned Parenthood during his campaign, "it is time to turn the page" to a new day when pro-life views, laws and debate on abortion are passé. And if he and the Democratic majority have their way, America will have that new day, one in which hundreds of thousands of more abortions will be performed annually. I still think it is utterly hypocritical that a president and a political party that pride themselves on providing and protecting minorities don't include the unborn among them.

Unfortunately, I consider you to be very wrong. Who in this country has beaucoup kids (multiple fathers)? NOT liberal whites but blacks, and hispanics. They are not the ones aborting. Whites are.
Rick Warren still has the inaugural prayer. Robinson was tapped for a different activity. Robinson says he doesn't plan to be very "Christian" nor does he plan to use the Bible as a reference for his "prayer". It's likely to be a homosexual rights rant. Obama continues to demonstrate a lack of good judgment in his ability to select personnel for various tasks.
I wouldn't blame the Catholic church for shutting down hospitals if they are forced to perform abortions. It won't be good news for my sister. She's been an OB nurse at Mercy Hospital in San Diego for 30 years.
explain their extra large families then. certainly not being cantankerous but common sense says blacks and hispanics are NOT having the bulk of abortions.
I just took in a foster child. He’s hispanic. His mother is pregnant for the 9th time. She’s 37. Plenty more birthin’ years to go too.

If the bishops do make it clear that they would follow through on their threat, that might be enough to defeat the bill...but Congress may not think they are serious.
Stephen Mansfield was on C-SPAN last night (a repeat from Aug. 25, 2008), talking about Obama's faith (he has a new book out on the topic). He billed himself as pro-life but took a very tolerant attitude towards Obama's pro-death stance and in general was very supportive (although he said he didn't plan to vote for Obama). That was the first day of the Democratic convention--Mansfield predicted that McCain would pick Romney as his running mate.
If Bambi pushes the FOCA as a first item of business I could see the following results: First Catholic members of Congress and the Administration supporting the bill including CINOs like Ted Kennedy, Tom Daschle and John Kerry will be formally excommunicated. Second, Catholic Bishops will defy the opening of Catholic hospitals for abortion and lead to some ugly confrontations. Imagine the scene of US Marshals arresting bishops and clergy standing in defiance at the hospital door. I can’t believe Bambi would be dumb enough to stir up this mess.

In 2004, there were 10.5 abortions per 1,000 white women ages 15 to 44, compared with 28 per 1,000 Hispanic women of that age and 50 per 1,000 black women. That translates into approximately 1 percent of white women having an abortion in 2004, compared with 3 percent of Hispanic women and 5 percent of black women.
Some things are just too unbelievable to make up.
Before Obama starts issuing orders; perhaps he should let us know who he actually is and why his mother was using another woman’s social security number.
