WASHINGTON — A national safety group is advocating a total ban on cell phone use while driving, saying the practice is clearly dangerous and leads to fatalities.

States should ban drivers from using hand-held and hands-free cell phones, and businesses should prohibit employees from using cell phones while driving on the job, the National Safety Council says in a new campaign.

What are you arguing with me about? Please read the posts more carefully. I am not even disagreeing with you.

Millions talk on their cells daily and don’t crash.

Millions drink and drive and don't crash, as well.

//The idiot Albuquerque Mayor, Mary Chaves goes to these fantastic mayors conferences and brings back red light cameras and the initiative to grow crops on the flat roofs of houses to combat global warming. Most houses in Albuquerque do have flat roofs, but the weight, moisture and mold would destroy them. But hey, hayseeds like me don’t know nothin noways so yeee haw, guess i should just plant some turnips on my roof.

I always pull over and finish my beer.

Shouldn't you pull over to open your beer? Safety first.

Listening to talk radio is not the same as trying to concentrate on talking to someone on a phone while driving.

Many callers call in while driving.

I was not arguing. I appreciate your position and we are in agreement. I was simply explaining why I reacted the way I did in an earlier post. I hope we part Fr iends.

So how did my post deviate to me saying not to listen to talk radio and then use cell phones to call in?

My point is if you want to use a cell phone in a car, pull over and park it ....

Oh yes, my apologies. I have checked your home page and you most, most certainly are NOT a “sir”. lol.

My brother flys left seat for net jets via e-3 AWAKS. We grew up around airplanes, and they are a bit of a family tradition. I do not fly but I admire the craft. Brother has an RV4 that he built himself and lives on a runway community. His next project is an RV7 cause now he has kids and he can’t fit but the wife in the RV4

Thank you, God!

Nothing drives me up the wall more than some IDIOT hogging up the passing lane while blabbing away on their cell phone.

Makes me wish I had a car with a giant speaker on the top like the Blues Brothers.

Talk about road rage. I could kill the STUPID b@#*&$d.

I know you did not say not to listen to talk radio, I disagree everyone should pull over to use a cell phone be it to call talk radio or call home. Should they pull over to eat and drink also? Why stop with cell phones, let us ban everything that is a potential distraction and yes it could come to that, no more radios in cars, too many people distracted.

Laws are already on the books for “failure to maintain control”...enforce the existing laws and quit passing laws to ban everything.

"The problem is that those of us who live in the boondocks wind up having to put up with the rules you people in the big city decide to inflict upon us."

Possible candidate for "Truth of the Century." (long time to wait to find out though)

It's only a matter of time.

One only needs to be on a major highway regularly (and not talking on a cell phone) to see how dangerous cell phone users are.
Of course they all think they are superior drivers, so it doesn't matter. Delusional is more like it. A few seconds' inattention and I (or my estate) will own their assets. They can be delusional all they want.

Comparing active cell phone use while driving, to listening to the radio is absurd to the point of incredulity.

ah..the Ted Kaczynski manifesto.

Statist ? about me you presume facts not in evidence.

Forget cell phone, it really has nothing to do with this discussion.

I too want to be left alone and I will leave you alone.

The question:
Is there any line to be drawn ?
If so, what's yours ? ...law-wise, behavior-wise in society.
and how does it fit within the 10th Amendment ?

It’s only a pant load to overly compliant slaves who don’t value being a free man.

The problem with that mindless dedication is that you would probably go mad accepting some people's definition of being a "free man."

What you probably meant is anything that agrees with your personal definition. Remember, a large percentage of the American public is certifiably insane.

Well how does adding another law protect you from an already illegal act?

Having escalating fines for repeat offenders (as for DUI aficionados) is the metaphorical 2X4 that even delusional idiots eventually understand.
