I condemn Israel's disproportionate attack on Hamas because, so far, it has only lasted four days and I would like to see a proportionate response that terrifies Hamas for seven years, the years that have filled Sderot and neighboring towns with nightmares, death, amputations and trauma coming from rockets and mortars fired from Gaza.
Perhaps a proportionate response would have Gaza's leaders fearful of being killed every day for the next two years, as Gilad Shalit has been terrified of torture and death every day for the last two years in his solitary Gaza dungeon.
A proportionate response would have Hamas mothers and fathers as fearful for their children's lives as Shalit's mother and father have been fearful for Gilad's life.
A proportionate response would have Gaza's children crying for their mommies and daddies, the way at a Hamas pageant earlier in December a Palestinian actor dressed as Shalit got down on his knees, mock-begging in Hebrew for his Ima and Abba while the Gaza crowds laughed.
A proportionate response would so intimidate Hamas that they will grovel and, as a "gesture," send cocoa and jam into Sderot, the way Israel has groveled in response to rockets from Hamas, sending cocoa and jam into Gaza. Imagine Churchill sending cocoa and jam into Berlin as a humanitarian gesture after - during - the bombing of London.

The disproportionate argument is a non-starter anyway. Since when are wars supposed to be fair, just or proportionate?
I'm a firm believer in not letting the (aggressor, terrorist, criminal, etc.) determine the rules of engagement. One who pokes a sleeping lion with a stick should not expect the lion to simply poke back with a stick should he wake up. Any loser who thinks that terrorizing others is a good way to make a living should expect that every day is probably his last.

Call me cruel if you want. I think Israel would be justified at unrestricted saturation bombing of the Gaza strip. I’d bomb that damned thing until it was below sea level and flooded.

I'd like to see Israel bulldoze a one mile buffer in Gaza ... and flatten an additional mile every time terrorists attack from Gaza.
I think a proportionate response would be to treat HAMAS the way HAMAS would like to deal with the Jews.

Response-The strongest standing , anti American Military force in the region is taken out in a few days and it's leader is hung . What follows is 8 years without a terrorist attack on our soil and now the strongest standing military force in the region is an ally of the USA.
Lesson learned= Don't screw with those crazy Americans, even The New York Times and CNN can't save us.
Unfortunately, after the 22nd this may all change.

I agree with this writer. The only beef I have with the Israelis is that they have been pussy-footing around with Hamas for so long. Israel needs to leave Gaza when there isn’t one brick on top of another. If the Palestinians can’t behave like civilized people they don’t deserve to be treated as such.
