WASHINGTON -- Roland Burris headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to demand a seat in the 111th Congress, insisting that if he isn't allowed to take the oath of office as the next senator from Illinois, the Senate could have a lawsuit on its hands.

Participating in the theatrics, Burris was greeted by Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a door-keeper and an official from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office before going to the appointment desk on the third floor and to the secretary of the Senate. There, his credentials were denied.

Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last month and accused of trying to sell the vacated U.S. Senate seat previously held by President-elect Barack Obama.

"Another old saying...Don't step into the ring unless you plan on winning. Let them hold a special election...Oh, yeh...afraid a Repub may take it. Wouldn't that be sweet... but this is Obama Country...Anyone who thinks that Obama's followers care about "dirty politics" is a dreamer. ACORN will turn out in droves." Fixed it for you. ;)

Thanks for the link.
It did not make sense to me what leg Reid thought he had to stand on to bar someone at the door. I see above Durbin says something about their Constitutional duty to see if someone was properly appointed/elected whatever which makes no sense. Since when does the senate have anything to to with States’ elections? This isn’t even an election it’s filling a vacancy according to IL law so it would seem they are all wrong. I don’t think Burris is any “cleaner” than Blago but I hope he makes a big stink and Reid et al are hoisted by their own petard.

This has nothing to do with racism. They just want to erase everything connected to Blago. Can’t blame ‘em.

Hooray for that Senator Burris! And more power to him for that monument -- especially if it is that he PAID FOR IT HIMSELF!

Mock those who rob us all first. Like Byrd, Kennedy, Reid ...

Washington, DC is the New Hollyweird....there’s more juicy drama in DC that dwarfs the tripe coming out of Hollywood these days.

Blago...thank you for starting out the New Year with huge barrels of fun. I have visions via these barrels of liquified sewage being dumped on the heads of the hypocrite ‘Rats
parading as sanctimonious elitist Dems. Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow.

I think the right of the people of Illinois has been violated: they should decide the senator. No corrupt governor should be allowed to do this.

The entire Democrat party is a den of slithering corruption. I believe Blago is a manifest example of that. That said, due process HAS to mean something in our country. HAS to. Blago is still governor. He is still presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or until he confesses, whichever comes first. Given all that, he has the right to appoint this senator, and Washington Democrats have NO right to refuse to seat that appointment. If Harry Reid has singular control over who gets admitted to the senate, we have become an oligarchy.

Burris should be seated because there is absolutely no legal reason to prevent it. I also have zero doubt that Dingy Harry's corruption, if exposed, would make Blago look like a saint.

I just love this - black obama doesn't want black burris so now what is the black caucus suppose to do???? They certainly can't cry racism and just move along. They will have to choose sides, make principled arguments to support their decision....never mind, I don't know what I was thinking. This will be too fun to watch.

Burris should go home, wait for the Blago dust to clear, and then ask to be appointed to the Senate. It was stupid to take Blago’s offer.

"Burris should go home, wait for the Blago dust to clear, and then ask to be appointed to the Senate. It was stupid to take Blago’s offer."

Why? Burris is a US Senator, at least under the law if that matters anymore. Reid will lose this; Burris will win. Reid and the Dems look like racist fools.

This is a disaster for Reid. He is already in trouble with the Nevada voters and is having a strong challenge in his own party. he is a pompous ass of the third magnitude.
The Chicago Black is now very upset. When this is coupled with the insane termination of analog tv on February 1 ( done purely for political kick backs) , riots will follow requiring national guard and fire fighters from many cities to stem the violence and destruction. Reid will hide under his bed.

Federal taxes take 20% of the national income and have fluctuated closely around that figure for at least 80 yrs.

The Houses of Congress have the constitutional power to decide on the qualifications of any prospective member. See Article I, Section 5 paragraph 1.

The RATs are clearly concerned that the Illinois voters may have a brief awakening because the RAT governor is a laughingstock to the entire nation.
