WASHINGTON -- Roland Burris headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to demand a seat in the 111th Congress, insisting that if he isn't allowed to take the oath of office as the next senator from Illinois, the Senate could have a lawsuit on its hands.
Participating in the theatrics, Burris was greeted by Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a door-keeper and an official from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office before going to the appointment desk on the third floor and to the secretary of the Senate. There, his credentials were denied.
Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last month and accused of trying to sell the vacated U.S. Senate seat previously held by President-elect Barack Obama.

Popcorn... a good business idea. Complete with political packaging. We must already have a shortage nationwide.
The Republicans should be supporting Burris, pointing out that the Democrats seek to install a white Democrat who stole a senate election over a lawfully appointed black man.
lol
There's an old expression about this: When your opponent is in the process of destroying himself, the best thing you can do is stay out of the way.
I belive the Senate(and (House) does have the Constitutional authority to reject any member. You may not like it.The sitting members have to answer come elections.
It has elected a racist....and turns away a black man from the Senate. What an embarrassment they are.
But, this is the political party Americans have chosen to rule them.
As long as gov cks keep coming.
That's exactly what the Dems are scared to death of happening since the stench and corruption of the Democratic Governor's Blagogate hit the fan.
Yes and no. I understand that Burris' seating requires the certification of the Sec'y of State of IL. That hasn't occurred, so in that way, the Senate is right not to seat Burris.
Burris should have marched right across the street to the Supreme Court.
The whole reason that they backed off a special election is because they realized that a Republican very well could get elected. Now, they’ve created this circus. I feel really bad for Burris. I don’t know much about him, but he looks very sincere, one of those people who don’t hide their emotions very well.
Burris looks like the real thing, to Magic Negro stuff going on.
Whoever thought we would see the Senate violate the Constitution...
“Section 4. The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations, except as to the places of choosing Senators.”
Pretty clear they would have to create and pass a law first to have power to turn away Burris.
I agree. The Sergeant at Arms deny entry to Burris is over reaching. He should sue those commie bastards.
Did you all notice (Fox news) that the new Vice President Joe Biden arrived in a motorcade in front of the senate building just as Burris & TV company were told to “move along” down the street by the police. Biden is the new “Head” of the senate and was arriving for the new senators swearing in and he got no coverage at all....none, nada, zip !!!!! hahahahahaha I’m just loving this.
Karen
Popcorn gets stuck in my teeth anyway.
Let them hold a special election...Oh, yeh...afraid a Repub may take it. Wouldn't that be sweet...
but this is Obama Country...Anyone who thinks that Obama's followers care about "dirty politics" is a dreamer. Dems will turn out in droves.
“Blagojevich’s letter to Burris informing him of his intent to appoint him and a fax document from White’s legal counsel stating that he had registered the appointment of Burris but not signed it.”
If that ain’t the limit I don’t know what is. What la-la land world do they live in?
