Leon Panetta is Obama's pick for CIA director (NEW: Feinstein might oppose him)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Jan. 5, 2008 | Greg Miller and Christi Parsons

Former California congressman and Clinton aide has little experience with spy agencies. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, incoming chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, indicates she might oppose the pick.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who this week begins her tenure as the first female chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said today that she was not consulted on the choice and indicated she might oppose it.

"I was not informed about the selection of Leon Panetta to be the CIA director," Feinstein said. "My position has consistently been that I believe the agency is best served by having an intelligence professional in charge at this time."

In picking Panetta, Obama risks raising anew questions about the politicization of the CIA, a concern cited by leading congressional officials.

A senior aide to Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), outgoing chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that the senator "would have concerns" about a Panetta nomination.

Rockefeller "thinks very highly of Panetta," the aide said. "But he's puzzled by the selection. He has concerns because he has always believed that the director of CIA needs to be someone with significant operational intelligence experience, and someone outside the political realm."

Iteresting, must be payback for something he did to them during the Clinton years.

What was ever the rationale for Panetta? I understand his other picks, but this one escapes me, any help?

No media report or FReeper has provided the reason given why Obama appointed Panetta. Anybody?

The Chinese must not approve of this pick. Grand Empress DiChiFi has spoken. They must have a bigger boob in mind. :-}

He didn’t have a clue? Nobody wanted to go down for zero? Hillary told him who he had to pick to keep her from blabbing?

IMO, the Clintons & Emmanuel are operating this bus. They’re just letting Barry sit behind the wheel and told him to keep smiling.

HUSSEIN showing that he has every intention of turning both the domestic and international intelligence agencies into political weapons to fight against enemies of his administration at home and in the USSA.

Right out of the third world playbook, and it works real well too.

Something tells me he has no intention of going peaceably when his term runs out.

Feinstein is smarter and less obnoxious than many Democrats. (I’m aware that that’s not saying much!)

Obama initially wanted to nominate John Brennan, but the “Obama team” forced him out, because leftists opposed him, because Brennan worked at the CIA under Tenet. Leftists want someone who will destroy the CIA, instead of use them to gather intelligence on terrorists.

The reason that Obama gave that Panetta is a “competent manager” rings hollow. I think the truth is as above.

O-child pushed the envelope too far? Of course, I picture Feinstein's protest as that from Callie, the town's good time girl in High Plains Drifter:
You're gonna let him get away with this?

- Be a little patient, will ya?

- Patient?

When a man's used to having his own way...
you let him have it until he goes too far.

[incredulously] Just what do you consider goin' too far?
Isn't forcible rape making absurd appointments in broad daylight a misdemeanor in this town?

There's too much at stake to throw away on hysterics now.

Hysterics? I can remember some hysterics one night administration not too long ago.

Callie Diane, keep your mouth shut! It's not about Bill and Hill

OK, so I adapted it a little bit. Still, it fits pretty well, don'tcha think?
