Outspoken Republican congressman Ron Paul says Israel had received a green light from the United States to launch an offensive in Gaza.
The Texas congressman said the Israeli attack on the impoverished Gaza Strip shapes a bleak future for the whole world as it means that, "the whole idea of preemptive or preventive war is spreading."
He went on to challenge the idea of Hamas threatening Israel's security and argued that "Palestinian missiles are so minor compared to the fire power of Israel, who has nuclear weapons."
The US Congressman's remarks come as Israel continues to rebuff international efforts to end the assault on Gaza, and Israeli troops and tanks -- protected by heavy air, sea and artillery fire - have sliced through the center of Gaza and surrounded the main city.
The tenth day of the assault brings the number of Palestinian casualties to 530 with over 2,600 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths.
Paul added that the escalation of war in Gaza would contribute to the fall of economy on the global stage and in the US, explaining that the US involvement in too many wars is "draining us emotionally and financially".
Congressman Paul said that even though Israel has carried out the invasion of Gaza, "the United States will be blamed for it."
"Israel depends on us; they depend on us economically, they depend on us for their military power and all their weapons and they really got a green light from our administration," he explained.
Paul's comment comes after US vice president Dick Cheney said Israel did not seek Washington's approval for launching an offensive against Gaza.
"They didn't seek clearance or approval from us, certainly," Cheney said Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli website Debkafile cited sources in Washington as saying that US President George W. Bush had given a green light to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for an all-out military operation in Gaza.
The GOP congressman also warned in July, that any Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would take place with the explicit backing of the US government.
Paul told Press TV that, "No matter what they do, it is our money, it is our weapons, and they are not going to do it without us approving it."
Yeah, RP is a real nut case. I didn’t consider voting for him after hearing his position on the WOT and national defense.
It’s a shame too because on the economy is way ahead of any one else.
Your arguments are the distraction.
Every adult in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as those in Gaza, had/has the duty to stop their part in the aggression. There were warnings about the consequences. If they do not get out or do their part to stop the aggression, they share the blame for the aggression.
Sorry, but "selective" targeting in a war is not an option when the enemy uses civilians as shields or the civ turns terrorist. If you were engaging them, do you think you could tell the "good guys" from the bad?
You talk about theory, yet ignore the facts in hand. The civilians in the buildings are supporting Hamas. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be there or they would be fighting to overcome Hamas.
The mothers and fathers attempting to protect their children do not see anything “just” in waiting for the next missile or sending their young men and women in on the ground before the missile sources are destroyed.
"Vastly disproportionate"? How so?
If a neighbor was shooting random bullets at your house and had actually wounded or killed part of your family, how would you respond?
a. Ignore the shooting?
b. Shoot back randomly?
c. Try to eliminate the source of the shooting?
When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, should we have tried to bomb their base in the Kuriles, then called it a day?
In a shooting war, "disproportionate response" is a necessary element of victory. Anything less means only that the war (and the killing) will continue.
With all due respect, your objection is insane.
Dont forget Condi Rice time & again telling Israel to calm down, don't react...she & Paul are , well, just a couple of bitches.
Some people have terrible moral blindness (and historical, and factual...) when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians. There is plenty of info out there so that people can inform themselves properly. There is no excuse for remaining ignorant.
The Clinton-Bush machine has allowed millions of infidel-haters to infest our country and build their madrassas and mosques (arsenals). Trojan Horse.

You got that right!
Amazing << Hear this. Feel this, and tell me that this isn't music.
They must hate the US too.
Results of public education. Schools are madrassas in reverse, white kids taught to hate their own people, their own ancestors.
There’s been a couple of articles about that in the last few days - even kids raised with good values often turn into liberal fanatics after years in public school, and even worse after university/college.
“The GOP and president Bush, Condi, sent millions to the PA. They built bombs with the money.”
It doesn’t matter to the RP haters.
In any event, didn’t Condi specify that US foreign aid money could only be used for weapons if the madrassas were fully funded first?
The oracle of the House. Not surprising. Interesting media outlets he’s interacting with, but then he’s a history of distasteful friends and supporters.
All else is just fluff for those who do not understand the first rule.
Amazing that you pontificate Israel play 'fair', when there is no such thing as a 'fair' fight.
Hamas stole an election, mudered the opposition, as they are doing now, and has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.
In some circles that threat alone would be enough to warrant self defense, long before what Israel is doing now.
Hamas has been shooting rockets into Israel for at least two years, killing women and children, the rest of the world says nothing. Israel finally responds the most effective way it knows, elimination of the leadership and the threat by pure military force, and the world condemns Israel.
Your screen name might be (relatively) new, but the blustering and low-rent attacks are very familiar.
Something from 1983 is centuries old?
