Pelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules
Human Events ^ | 5 January 2009 | Connie Hair

Posted on 01/05/2009 7:54:23 AM PST by Clinton's a liar

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

Why is that the Dems can just rewrite anything every time they don’t like something, but can also stymie the Republicans at every turn with “parliamentary” procedures?

Because they all have the lame stream media and Soros, et al behind them - paving an easy path.

Bingo. They only know what they remember the media telling them. Most had no idea Democrats ran Congress in 2006-8. The idiot Republicns went along with Bush’s attempts at bi-partisanship and suffered. No we need to clean house and fight.

they would know if the democrats were the only ones showing up to jabber and posture about the excruciatingly bad legislation that has become par for the course

some very tough choices are going to be made in the months ahead. taking full responsibiity is a function the democrats are unskilled at and unwilling to assume. they must always have “a fall guy”... just look at Nan’s sweaty brow during the bail out legislation, she wasnt willing to to pass it iunless the GOP signed on as the scapegoats

like idiots they caved to her ...is Boner paying attention NOW?

No. Everything will be blamed on Bush. The media will go along with that explanation.

Rs should walk out on every significant vote so that the Pelosi-scum end up with published votes of 241-0 or whatever.

Then make the dictatorial witch Nancy Pelosi the issue and vilify her and her cohorts.

I know that the Mediascum won’t cooperate the way they did in wrecking Newt Gingrich’s image and reputation, but still, it should be possible to show the public what the Pelosi witch is all about.

The real roadblock is potentially in the senate. How long before we hear that the rats are rewriting the filibuster rule and implementing the “nuclear option” that RINOs like McCain prevented the GOP from using?

There’s already friction between Pelosi/Reid and Obama. Obama is not nearly as dumb as Pelosi OR Reid.

This morning’s news said Obama was going to Capitol Hill to get ‘bipartisan’ support for his economic stiimulus program. “Bipartisan” today is a silly word. The Dems on the Hill don’t need the Republicans. But after ‘10 it may well be another question. Obama knows that.
