WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the country is not "race-blind" and "we shouldn't deceive ourselves that we're race-blind," but said the election of Barack Obama as the first African-American president was a key moment in history.
"I think all Americans were quite taken with the fact that we were able, after the long history we've been through, that initial birth defect of slavery, that we've elected an African-American."

well given a 100% 24-7 media push for months, and a nicely-timed financial meltdown once mccain seemed to get some momentum from the Palin nomination, yeah, it is surprising....
“As for his experience being closer to Asian-Americans than African-Americans, well, I dont know about that. I dont know any Asian-Americans (you can guess that I came from that milieu) who would let his own brother, albeit half-brother, live in squalid conditions and who would not attend his own grandmothers funeral when he has the means to do so. Asian-Americans, with rare exceptions, are very tender and loving about their family.”
When did the grandmother actually die? There is speculation that she did when he went to hawaii before the election, adn the BCertificate thing was just a two-fer while he was there.
The timing, the day before the national election, is just too perfect to not look at more closely.
For generations one drop of black blood would put you in the back of the bus. Negroes were Negroes even if only half (or less) black. Protesting now that Obama is half white is disingenuous.
It is not really that far.
Therefore, the argument could be made, should what you assert be "true" about "some" Republicans...
Democrats are exhibitionist sexualists. Therefore they are more in everyone's face with their genitalia habits.
Republicans are hypocrites because they don't put their genitalia behaviors on display for public consumption.
Now, then if this is where someone steps in to say "SEE THEY ARE ALL CORRUPT". I shall have to reply to that person to go fly a kite.
Happy New Year to you too, Seoul62. Blessings upon you and your loved ones, especially YOU and because you have a blessing toddler. :)
That having been said it is a disappointment to see how much of a run-of-the-mill race pimp Condi Rice turned out to be.
I saw something yesterday which said this was going to hurt Cuba, which is majority black (not sure about that)- Fidel always said we were racist... I am not surprised by this at all. America changed before anyone noticed. Hasnt been a racist country in a (relatively) long time. The thing that says a great deal about America is how far we’ve come in my lifetime- I was born in 1964. Has any other country “solved” a problem so quickly, once it was truly addressed? The great difference bewteen us and most of our detractors is we changed.
God Bless.
Sometimes I think that too many Republicans have become a caricature of what liberals say conservatives have become: creatures of white identity politics. Then I remember that Alan Keyes is somehow still in our party.
What Rice said was both harmless and true: race still is an important factor in American life, it's just not what it was. And the fact that the U.S. elected a black man to be President of the United States says that we are who we say we are.
Now this guy probably will turn out to be a clown and I will enthusiastically run out and vote for Palin in four years, but the fact that people scream "Quisling" and other nonsense when the Republican alternative this year was the thin gruel of Juan Domingo McCain is something that continues to amaze me.
John McCain was nothing to be proud of, continually fought against free speech and the interests of his own party, ran the most incompetent campaign in modern times, and refused to recognize that to have immigration reform you needed border security first. If Rice decided to vote for Obama so the Dems had to be saddled with the reality of war, then I would't blame her one bit. I have my doubts: Obama was a severe critic both of her and of the war she helped to originate and support. I don't think the notion that she voted for Obama is a slam-dunk.
I voted for McCain (well, Palin actually), but I can't for the life of me figure out how the D's were going to grow the hell up other than by being forced to govern. If she did vote for BHO, I'm sure that was one of her motivations.
Besides, after four years of Juan Domingo McCain, the D's could run a Himmler/Heydrich ticket and beat us by forty points. McCain is such a resentful old coot that he would have buried Palin in some makework nonsense.
Believe me, don't whine about who Condi Rice voted for. The time is now for rebuilding the Party, not being in power. It's not like we earned our way back into power over the last four years.
Thank you Alia, Many Blessings to you and your Family for a healthy New Year./Just Asking - seoul62.......
I’m not entirely sure she voted for McCAin.
Frankie says “Relax, don’t do it”
You are taking her comments out of context.
MSM paints it that....Shes just jealous that despite the fact that she is the first black woman to be SOS, there is no ceremonial coin in her honor.
She is just an Aunt Jemimah and the NAALBP (National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Black People) robbed her of her place in history because she is a conservative.
Heil Obama! Apparently Dr. Rice has taken a full load of kool aide..
Correction: Obama election encourages people worldwide to buy more guns & ammo.
