Newsweek Uses Year-end Edition to Take Potshots at Palin
NewsBusters ^ | December 26, 2008 | Brent Baker

Posted on 12/26/2008 12:42:46 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

Newsweek sprinkled throughout its year-end double issue, with Barack Obama on the cover as the #1 member of “The New Global Elite,” a bunch of potshots at Sarah Palin -- and even derided teen daughter Bristol too. In a list of those who committed “low behavior” during 2008 (which did at least also highlight John Edwards), the magazine accused Sarah Palin of a “smear” against Barack Obama, on another page Newsweek described her as an “ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic” (while on the same page hailing MSNBC's Rachel Maddow as a “brilliant” woman who “gives libs a happy new voice”) and deep in the December 29/January 5 edition the magazine ridiculed Bristol Palin: “For 30 years, the Moral Majority has promoted 'abstinence only.' Jamie Lynn Spears, Bristol Palin...how's that working out?” The specifics:

Page 21, a list of “The Biggest Losers” of 2008 “who set the high-water mark for low behavior in 2008,” featured Palin: “In a smear that sounds even worse in retrospect, Sarah Palin goes rogue and stirs up prejudice by accusing Barack Obama of 'palling around with terrorists.'”

Ten pages later, in a full-page year in review version of the “Conventional Wisdom Watch” (not yet online in the posted CW), the newsweekly hit her and McCain, but admired Maddow:

Sarah Palin: Ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic has ego bigger than Alaska -- and she's still the darling of the GOP.

John McCain: Hard to forgive the nasty end-game, and Palin pick was iresponsible. But classy concession speech and Letterman gig.

Rachel Maddow: Brilliant, ebullient, lefty lesbian gives libs a happy new voice. Will MSNBC be Obama's Fox?

“Will”?

They trash Sarah because she represents everything that the libs are NOT. They mention the clothes, has ANYONE and I mean ANYONE come forward from any store saying “Yeah I sold clothes to Sarah Palin” no of course not, you wanna know why, because she NEVER shopped at any of the stores except for Wal-Mart. The media followed her around like a puppy dog, she went to a pumpkin patch, Trick-or-Treating with her kids, and to Wal-Mart, that is the ONLY store she went to, the libs are scared to death of her. They mock her because they are scared to death that she is gonna run for President. They have hopeless lives, their messiah is a false prophet, so they fear that Sarah is gonna come in in 2012 and run their party, I am counting the days til 2012, the left continues to bash her so we are doing something right, they don’t bash Huckabee, or Sanford, Jindal, or Romney, they only bash Palin, why, because she is the future of the party and they fear that, a TRUE Conservative with REAL Reagan Conservative values

This country is headed nonstop towards a very UN-civil war. And since we’re armed, and the leftists aren’t, I like our chances. But mark my words,...there will be a tipping point. It may be the final culmination of illegals, bailouts, destroying the military, being hit again by Muslims, euthanizing babies after birth, etc.,,,, but it will happen. You can take just so much of this sh*t and then it’s time to kick ass!

Look, I really don’t care who would win in a crazy fantasy fistfight between Sarah Palin and Edward Norton.

There isn't a SHRED of evidence that Sarah Palin went on any shopping spree indicative of a "shopaholic", and yet the media continues to spread these LIES. The disgusting thing is that it has worked with respect to how many Americans view her.

I was a kid when Edward R. Murrow was still a major force in U.S. journalism. What's happened since then is appalling and may yet ruin this country.

I don’t know, I think Rachel has potential if she grew out her hair and used some makeup, she just might get into “Not Guilty” territory if she tried.

To commemorate the 12 days of Christmas here are 12 random thoughts some political and some not: 1) instead of commenting on Sarah being a shopoholic, they should have referred to Obama as ‘an Emperor who has no clothes on’ 2)has anyone noticed the hate toward Sarah is similar to the hate directed to Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots-I wonder if it is because both are considered principled people, have ruffled feathers, march to the beat of their own drummer, and just get people riled up. 3)I believe there is a concerted effort by ‘minority types’ to marginalize the ‘traditional white way of thinking about the world. I AM NOT talking about skin color or exterminating white people but to an effort to eradicate certain ‘white’ ideas: capitalism and free enterprise, personal initiative and personal responsibility to succeed and also to fail, to end the premise that banks must insist on proper collateral or guarantees to make loans, that government must balance budgets, border security, the belief that Americans should live their lives as envisioned by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution, American exceptionalist and nativist ideas have alienated the rest of the world and put America on the outside and at odds with the UN on global warming, Middle East policy and narrowing the wealth gap between America and the third world. By the way the ‘minority’ proponents have read Atlas Shrugged. They cannot allow the ‘whites’ to go on strike. They need their cooperation. 4)If the GOP does not want to go the way of the dodo bird beside winning elections again it must regain control of the cultural trends-music, art, movies, fashion, literature or at least find a way to adapt to them to neutralize the advantage the Democrats have in this area. 5)If you are a traditional Christian like Sarah be prepared to be under siege for the rest of your life. I’m not saying Obama is eventually going to feed you to the lions or throw you in concentration camps but you need to be vigilant: Obama and his merry men and women will seek and use any non-violent means or insidious method to emasculate or marginalize tradional Christians and their organizations so that you do not have a political voice. 6)has anybody noticed that the Buffalo Bills have not been in the playoffs since 1999-the year that Wade Phillips unjustly benched his starting QB Doug Flutie in favor of Rob Johnston to play the Tennessee Titans who won with ‘the Music City Miracle’-did Flutie put a curse on Buffalo? Also did he put a curse on Wade Phillips? He was the SD Chargers’ defensive coordinator who lost to the Patriots at home in 2006 when SD went 14-2 in the regular season. Anyone want to bet the curse continues and Dallas doesn’t get it done in Philadelphia and a wierd play factors into the equation. 7)Is Brett Favre of the Jets being scapegoated for the Jets demise as Sarah was in being accused of solely being responsible for the failure of the McCain campaign? Intersting that both were thrust into a situation without adequate preparation. 8)Does anyone out there familiar with the Sean Avery situation of losing his livelihood as a hockey player and having to attend ‘counselling’ for dissing his former girl friend see it as similar to the Red Chinese in the early 1950’s confiscating landholdings and properties from the bourgeoisie and sending them to ‘re-education camps to forcibly accustom them to the ‘new order’ of things. 9)Why isn’t there a detailed analysis of Saul Alinsky and Rules for Radicals and the impact they had on Obama by the conservative intelligentsia instead of some egghead referring to them in passing as if to score a debating point. 10)If Obama sees America as a ‘kinder, gentler nation’ why is NFL the most popular sport in America: dog-eat-dog, the survival of the fittest? 11)If anything will save America from Obama’s socialist hordes it will be the Internet and the right-wing blogosphere-if only they were present after Hitler took power. 12)Again to those who feel it is too early to get ready for 2012 to take Obama out, I have only one thing to say to you: “Get out of the way-we are coming through-we are on a mission to save America-nothing can be more important in the next 4 years.

They trash Sarah because she represents everything that the libs are NOT...................................

Indeed! And are they not that unaware that, over time, the public will see that?

The “do your own thing, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone” female liberals sense that Sarah represents their possible exposure, by highlighting all that some women have given up along their narcissistic path to their ill-defined “utopia”, where thay will only have to do for those whom they favor at the moment.

She brings life to those memories of the powerful and loving women of men’s pasts that they now have come to appreciate and treasure!

A concept that few liberals will (and cannot) ever understand.
