The path of destruction and fear stretched at least 5 miles yesterday morning after a 24-year-old man rocketed his car the wrong way on the South Outerbelt.
The toll: Seven people injured, including the critically injured driver, Altunar Baltazar. Six vehicles crunched, including the smashed Nissan Maxima that witnesses say other cars were lucky to avoid.
"He headed right for us," Columbus resident Robert Crawford said. "It was like he was trying to hit us. He had the pedal to the floor. I knew he was going to clip someone quick."
Crawford, who was heading east on I-270, said the white car suddenly whizzed into sight over a rise on the highway near Alum Creek Drive. He dodged it and watched cars scramble to clear the road in his rearview mirror.
The Franklin County sheriff's office said the driver's unofficial Ohio ID card identified him as Baltazar, and gave his address as 807 Derrer Rd. He actually was pronounced dead at the scene, but medics later decided he was still showing signs of life and sent him to Ohio State University Medical Center, a sheriff's statement said.

What exactly is an "unofficial Ohio ID card"? I thought ID cards were official state documents. Perhaps the reporter was trying to use more politically correct language to say it was a forged ID card. Or perhaps she was implying that he didnt' have a drivers license but only an ID card.
You are correct, this is pc reporting to cover for his illegal alien status.
This is from a prior accident in 2007, it seems the guy had not aged in a year. LOL
Cops should have put this POS in his home country then.
I will be interested to learn how this incident (near multiple fatalities) is adjudicated in the county court system. I plan to follow up periodically.

Depends on the judge.
Its been years since I lived in Columbus, but if Marvin Romanoff is still on the bench there and this guy goes in front of him, he’s history.
I think Romanoff is still on the bench and, you’re are right, he has little patience for this kind of thing.
Did he yell “Allaha Akhbar” as he was driving down the freeway in the wrong direction?
No, “Ay Caramba!”
I live in Columbus. That address is in the heart of Little Tijuana.
Just celebrating according to his culture. Ain't "diversity" grand?
He's retired, much to the relief of DUI lawyers and clients all over Franklin County.
Was this on the local television news? I haven’t watched.
I am so sick of these scumbag illegals. I hate to admit it, but if I come across Mexicans these days, I assume something bad is about to happen.
Whenever I see an adult who is of Mexican background, I pretty much assume that they are illegal. I truly have nothing against Mexicans (and you likely do not either) but this lawless of entering the country illegally, scamming the tax system, falsifying ss numbers, etc., really angers me. Why should I be honest with the system? Only my sense of right and wrong keeps me on the straight and narrow.
You’ve summed it up quite nicely.
It appears he’s an alien & we’ll be spending lots of tax dollars for his medical care:
[snip] Investigators said Friday that the man who caused chaos by driving the wrong way along Interstate 270 on Christmas morning may be a Mexican national who was using a phony Ohio identification.
Altunar Baltazar remained in critical condition on Friday at The Ohio State University Medical Center, 10TV News reported.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies said that Baltazar, 24, was driving drunk when he traveled for six miles along I-270 on the city’s south side and caused several crashes.

According to investigators, Baltazar did not have a valid driver’s license, 10TV’s Paul Aker reported.
Deputies said that Baltazar turned the wrong way onto I-270 on the city’s south side, at Alum Creek Drive, at about 10:13 a.m. Thursday. He drove west, in the eastbound lanes, before crashing near the ramp to I-71.
“We do suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash,” said Sgt. Carl Hickey of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that they received several calls about a white Nissan Maxima that was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes, running vehicles off the road. Six minutes later, the Maxima collided with five other vehicles and sent six people, including Baltazar, to hospitals.
None of the names of the injured were released by deputies.
10 Investigates obtained several 911 calls that were made to police during the incident.
“There’s this freaking nut - he’s driving crazy on the freeway,” a 911 caller said. “He’s already driven three cars off the (expletive) road.”
Before the crash, deputies said that Baltazar caused another crash along I-270 that was less serious.
