ALBANY - Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver yesterday strongly suggested that Gov. Paterson reject Caroline Kennedy as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's replacement - because she might be more loyal to Mayor Bloomberg than to the governor.
"If I were the governor, I would look and question whether this is the appointment I'd want to make, where her first obligation might be to the mayor of the City of New York, rather than to the governor who would be appointing her," Silver said.
He told Albany's Talk 1300-AM that he had no doubt that Bloomberg, a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent who twice defeated Democrats while running as a Republican, was the main Force behind Kennedy's efforts to become a senator.

What’s the problem here ? Bloomberg is a leftist rodent.
This is good.
Maybe its the Cuomos, Shelly and Hill vs. the Kennedys and Kerrys. Any chance they could all lose?
I wonder where the other N.Y. senator chuckie schumer is on this coronation of princess caroline?
I also wonder if his public stance is what he really wants?
The cesspools of New York. I wouldn’t appoint either one. These candidates don’t care about America or anyone but themselves.
I have an idea. Let’s elect someone that actually does.
And have Paterson pull are real mind blower and appoint Rudy to the Senate?
This would possibly get Rudy out of the way for a 2010 Gov run on the Pubbie ticket vs. Paterson, but Paterson would still have to contend with King Bloomberg running on an Indie ticket against him
CONGRESS REPEALS THE SHELLY TAX (8-4-05 NY Daily News)
It is now $600 cheaper for New Yorkers to lease a car, thanks to an act of Congress that cut Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver off at the knees, along with his cronies among the state's trial lawyers. Tucked into the $287 billion transportation bill that has been sent to President Bush for signature is a provision outlawing New York's so-called vicarious liability law, a statute that drove up the cost of leasing in New York by making car companies responsible for every accident in every vehicle they lease. The law was a gold mine for the lawyers. Besides suing reckless drivers who injured their clients, the lawyers got to reach into the far deeper pockets of leasing companies for big settlements. It made no difference that the companies played absolutely no role in the accidents.

No problem at all ... just pointing out that Shelly Silver is the *real* power in NYS politics, not the Governor (whoever the Governor may be at the time)
Bah, what was I thinking.
I wonder if Hillary is behind the scenes putting the kabosh on Caroline? After all the Kennedy’s were staunch Zero endorsers.
Federal Senator is the most powerful political office on earth. Beholden to Gov or Mayor? joke.
Chuckie would be delighted to have a very weak appointee because he was totally frustrated by Hillary shoving him out of the limelight.
Where has Shel been over the past year ? He’s been laying so low you’d think he was permanently pining for the fjords.
Hahahahaa ... yep ... after all, this past election featured 3 (count 'em THREE!) Federal Senators and one mere Governor and former Mayor, who was mocked and ridiculed as being 'inexperienced'!
/laughs .... I got yer joke :)
That's always been his MO ... Shelly doesn't seek the limelight, he just pulls strings quietly in the background
That might be my take too. Course what ever he thinks he’ll wussy up.
En zo, Caroline should actually be loyal to the people of New York, but if her only choices are between a blind guy who’s the butt of SNL jokes or a multi-billionaire trying to clear New York city streets of vehicles, whas’ a girl gonna’ do.
I doubt Hillary has enough influence in N.Y. to do so.
Clearly entreched establishsment figures are against her though.
This appointment could be very telling as to who has the most pull and favors to call in within the state.
I have to think just on the surface the idea of the Kennedy’s not sticking to MASS has probably rubbed many NY Democrats in the wrong way. I doubt they look with favor at having two states becoming heriditary stomping grounds for that family.
He doesn’t want someone who will outshine him, which means likely he doesn’t want Caroline.
I actually agree with Silver, albeit for a different reason.
