[history]
A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.
Andrew Freedman says Kitt died Thursday of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

She did the only version of Santa Baby. Madonna channeling Cindy Lauper. Ugh.

We were just sitting at the table the other night listening to oldies while playing Uno - One of her songs, in fact I think it was Santa Baby, came on and we were telling the kids about her. What a shock to see her death listed when we were just talking about her.
To: Jet Jaguar
I just posted that song on The Canteen!
May she rest in peace!

Julie Newmar was the original Catwoman. Kitt took on the role after Newmar and Lee Meriwether.

She was absolutely wonderful in St. Louis Blues, the story of W.C. Handy.
We've lost one of the great ones. May she rest in peace.
