Did McCain Botch the Sarah Palin Pick?
US News & World Report - Washington Whispers ^ | 2008-12-23 | Paul Bedard

The Sarah Palin backlash—or comeback—is underway. Misused by the McCain campaign, then dissed by anonymous McCainiacs as a haughty diva, those who think the senator and his staff are to blame are starting to speak out. And we're not talking about those who traveled with the Alaska governor who quickly took a shining to her and chafed when the McCain team botched her coming out on the campaign trail. Now I'm hearing from key Republicans on Capitol Hill and GOP pollsters who believe that the McCain campaign should have put her out to talk about energy and political independence—her two best issues—instead of making her the conservative attack dog.

Didn’t you hear? Caroline Kennedy hails her own cabs!

To drive her to her $15 million Park Avenue condo.

Obama bought(with his international contributions) everyone and everything else, why not McCain
That's what I think. And it probably didn't cost Obama very much either.

Because what McCain loves more than money is to be loved by liberals.

Once he saw the press turn against him in the campaign, he struggled like heck to get back in their good graces and consciously or subconsciously he knew that the only way he could do that was lose to The One.

And if The One also slipped him a little "bonus", then that was just icing on the cake.

I think McTraitor is as happy as a clam right now. As long as he's a hero at leftist cocktail parties, that's all he needs.

What a dirt-bag.

I am going to have to disagree with you here, he should have placed her as the Presidential candidate and then got his sorry a** out of the campaign altogether!

Yeah - OK. I'll grant you that your choice would've been better...

McCain botched everything. It was the most feeble, mismanaged, inept campaign in modern politics.

Palin continues to get trashed for one reason - she’s a prolife conservative woman who is young, popular and able to affect the culture.

Said it before and I’ll say it again. John McCain was a mole for his own campaign. I think he picked Sarah Palin thinking it would hurt him, but he got an odd surprise.

I believe McCain’s entire intention from day one...was simply to run a second place operation....

On the one hand - I find that hard to believe... But on the other hand - the McCain campaign sure seemed like it was designed not to offend.
This seems like a guaranteed recipe for defeat - because you are going to 'offend' if you stake out a position and are willing to fight (fairly and righteously) for the job...
I attributed this to the McCain plan of appealing to the 'squishy undecided' camp - but the net result was that his campaign didn't act like it wanted to win.
To be partially fair, the Republican candidates are always going to battle under the disadvantage that they fight not only against the Democrat candidate, but also against the media and their distortions. Any 'aggressive campaigning' by Republicans will always be reported as 'going negative'. Whereas 'aggressive campaigning' by Democrats will either be ignored, or called 'aggressive campaigning'. Perhaps Senator McCain tried to steer away from 'aggressive campaigning' to avoid getting slimed by the media. Not that this helped him a wit...

Next time just come out firing and understand the media is going to call you names. They are going to do that anyways - so you might as well bring all your weapons to the battle.

>>That McCain threw the election for Obama is no surprise.<<

McCain ran his campaign so incompetently I mused that perhaps he wanted Obama to win. It is not utterly ridiculous. Whoever won would be saddled with the responsibility for the collapse of our economy that most definitely will be playing out in full glory by next year and go on for years more.

Only problem is that Obama coult so screw the pooch that we end up literally destroyed as a nation with him at the helm.

But I’ve only voted FOR two candidates in my life. First was Reagan. Second was Sarah. If this country survives the next four years, I will volunteer as an active participant in her campaign for President in 2012.
