I'll be celebrating Christmas in the sandbox for the first time in all those years I've been here.

I was kind of bummed out about that at first, but we're having some nice get-togethers and the Iraqis are all getting into Christmas.

Iraqi Christians have boldly decorated around the city for the first time in years. Turns out, it's all quite beautiful.

I hope you get your white Christmas. As much as I don't like snow, a light dusting at Christmas is very nice. :)

Prayers for your Christians.

Tis a risky place to put your faith on public display.

Allegra I know how you feel.

But spending Christmas far away like that IMHO gives you a much better appreciation for what we have back here.

Didn't Iraqi Christian used to be afraid to “flaunt” their religion for fear of prosecution?

I've spent Christmas all over the eastern US, in a few Mexican border towns and an iota of Canada.

Maybe it's good not to celebrate in the same spot forever. Even if home is your favorite you will enjoy other experiences and they might help you appreciate celebrating at home more.
