No strollers near the Capitol. No tents on the National Mall. None of that Silly String on the parade route.
That's just a sample of the items forbidden from President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration for security reasons. And while many people say the inconvenience is a small price to pay to witness the swearing-in of the nation's first black president, others are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how they will sit, snack, carry diapers or transport tired tots.
Some older people are backing out of their inaugural plans, partly because of a no-chair rule for the parade route. Parenting blogs are abuzz with complaints about the less-than-kid-friendly restrictions. Thermoses, coolers and backpacks are out at both the Capitol and the parade route.
"Of course, they're not going to say, 'no children,"' said Sunny Chanel, a San Francisco-based contributor to Babble.com, a parenting Web site. "But they're definitely not making it easy for parents with smaller children to go."

Metro (WMATA) is charging “rush hours” fares all day.
It will also be the most ethical administration in history.
Or has someone already said that?
How long those places are open is irrelevant in the face of the problem.
Good grief! Those attending should go into a rigorous month long training just to make it through the Inaugural Parade, and only the most fit will be able to dance later at an Inaugural Ball.
Seems it would be easier to list what IS allowed.
The absolute worst job during this event, the people who have to empty and clean all those porty-potties.
Used to do this in a DRIVE IN THEATRE. The women's room? NO ONE ever hit the pot!
OK. One more indication that words and truth mean nothing to this group. Obviously they think we’re all stupid.
Obama will be president, so everything will be FREEEEEEEE.
> Hello to beautiful New Zealand!
Hello to the Sweet Land of Liberty!
> Just for your edification- Americans arent OWNED. I can promise you I am not!
Right glad I am to hear it. I recall reading somewhere of Hillary Clinton’s words to Bill when he was first elected.
During the course of events a group of jet fighter craft flew overhead in formation.
Hillary is reported to have said something like “Those jets belong to us, now.”
> If that is what Mr. Hussein and the rest of the world thinks, stand by for a real surprise.
There is hope yet!
God Bless America

None of that Silly String = sounds like obamas family tree
Perhaps we should start drawing up contingency plans to bring beer in with military convoys...so that no American go dry in the midst of the inaugural. We may have to redistribute beer from Alabama and Georgia....to make this operation successful.
I am going to miss President George W Bush.
Sounds like a huge idiot convention.
An inaugural is no place for babies or the elderly. Better to take them to Times Square for New Year’s Eve.
We went to one inadvertenly, Bush in 2001. Never again. I wouldn’t go if my own son was being sworn in!
Keep in mind that was pre-9/11 and not particularly historic. I would not be surprised if 1/2 of DC Metro’s population goes to Obama’s, so you’d have at least double the crowd. It is wall-to-wall people, It took us well over an hour to get from the Mall at about 3rd street to 6th street.
They will get a much better view, and will be more comfortable, just watching on tv if they’re so inclined.
The ‘those are our jets now’ quote is attributable to the Hollywood star, Ron Silver, who turn right after 9/11.
But he spoke at the time to the sentiments of the left.
Remember, they had to cancel all the events for Reagan’s second inaugural? It was insufferably bitter cold. There is part of me wishing for that this year because DC just isn’t equipped to deal with the anticipated crowds, even with all the military and out-of-town police support.
I’m trying to figure out why a parent of a child that needed a stroller would want to subject them to January weather in DC? Personally I’m praying for an ice storm that week that shuts the power off so I don’t have to watch the thing!
We are going to have no president for the next four years.
No patriotism no pledge of allegiance and no so help me God at the end of his taking the oath.
No intelligence
No decent honorable associates
No class and no dignity
