Franken Takes Lead in Minnesota Senate race, Paper Says (board will count tonight until done)

CNN) -- Democrat Al Franken has pulled ahead of incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in Minnesota's still unresolved U.S. Senate race, according to a running tally on the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Web site.

Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, left, and Democrat Al Franken have swapped leads in Minnesota's Senate race.

Late Friday morning, the newspaper's tally put Franken ahead by 102 votes. Coleman's lead had fallen to single digits Thursday evening.

But the race remains fluid: The results reported by the newspaper are ongoing, with hundreds of challenged ballots still to be reviewed.

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has said that he and four other members on the Canvassing Board will not end their workday until all remaining challenges have been reviewed.

One major wild card that remains are roughly 4,000 ballots that were originally challenged by the campaigns, who have since withdrawn those challenges. The secretary of state's office has yet to declare how or when those ballots will be awarded to the candidates.

About 3 million votes were cast in the election, and the close result tripped an automatic recount.

Franken, a former "Saturday Night Live" comedian and writer, gained several hundred votes Thursday night as the board ruled on ballot challenges from both sides, the newspaper reported.

"When the recount is over and all the votes that were legally cast are counted, Al Franken will have won this election and will be declared the winner," Marc Elias, Franken's lead recount attorney, told the newspaper

RSR - do this: < strike > (no spaces) before the word you want to strike out. Then do this at the end of the word (or words) you want to ‘strike out’: < /strike > no spaces. It works!

This is happening in a state with a Republican Governor who was a viable candidate for Vice President this year and without a single Democrat siting on the state Supreme Court.
Disgusting.

Meet us after work at the Minnesota statehouse. We’ll be there, just as soon as we drop the kids off. Oh, and we can’t do it on Wednesday because some of us have church. Any other day except when we have to work late. Any other day though. Except for Sunday (the church thing again), and Saturday...family time. Any other day though, so long as it doesn’t interfere with...nevermind.

The list would have to stop at 50.

Or 58.

If the Republican Party can’t protect an election won by the incumbent U.S. senator in Minnesota, there is no point in donating to the Republican Party.

While it is no doubt true the failed RNC policies are RINO enablers and the reason no 'leaders' stand out! And it is equally true that it is time to close that book and create an actual Conservative Party (1994 Contract w/America would be a good Intro/1st Chapter). Given all that, it is also true that Democrat ballots can always be discovered in any state, any time to overturn conservative wins! or as Annie says: The Republican won the race on election night, but ballots favoring the Democrat kept being “discovered” until the Democrat finally eked out a majority. Which makes us slightly more conservative than China.

That the people of the state of Minnesota would put this filthy perverse charlatan clown into office speaks volumes for the future of a state in decline.

Pretty sure I speak for many here in stating my opinion that there are 49 other states right there with Minnesota in decline as far as elections go! The MSM and Academe all but guarantee that universal result! He joins so many other charlatans in the Kangaroo Kongress that he'll still look like the 'failed' comedian he is, amidst all the others! A failed Tragi-comedy is a Tragi-comedy nonetheless!

Did anyone really expect any other outcome?

Clearly, the Dems ran nutroot Franken to simply show that any monkey can win as a Dem in MN. And the smell coming out of DC can be viewed as Frankenstench...since that pretty much applies now to many states! Live in a Red state...we have our choice between a RINO or a Dem, take your pick!...and as long as the open primaries preceed closed primaries, looks like it applies to President as well!

Question...How many Fake Votes does it take for a democrat to win?

why dont they just “find” another 50,000?

Wow! I can’t believe we are going to have a Senator Franken. Well it has been a long fight for Coleman. I wonder if he wishes he had been a conservative.

I’m sure that Washington Governor Christine Gregoire will be the first to call to congratulate

What is strange about this is that sure she cheated her way into winning in 2004, but than kicked some major butt in 2008...did people not remember or what? Dino not campaign well? He must be embarassed to lose to a cheater.

If Franken wins, does this mean the Dems have their 60 member majority in the Senate?

No, they would have 59, counting Lieberman and the socalist. But to keep 41 Republicans together, including some long term RINO’s, will be a difficult task.

Why is everyone so upset ?

This will simply teach the GOP one more time that you can’t run a rino, you must run a true conservative in order to win.
