Magnetic Field Hole Could Cripple Communications
FoxNews.com ^ | Thursday, December 18, 2008 | Andrea Thompson

Scientists have found two large leaks in Earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms.

The leaks are defying many of scientists' previous ideas on how the interaction between Earth's magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: The leaks are in an unexpected location, let in solar particles in faster than expected and the whole interaction works in a manner that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.

The findings have implications for how solar storms affect the our planet. Serious storms, which involved charged particles spewing from the sun, can disable satellites and even disrupt power grids on Earth.

What was it....December 21st, 2012 that was the last day ever on the Mayan calendar?

I wonder if this new discovery in the magnetic field has anything to do with the supposedly coming reversal of the polarity of the field. Could all this be normal precursors to the reversal?

Just came across this and I thought I'd post it in case anyone is interested in watching

Do you want to know what’s going to happen in 2012? I haven’t the slightest idea, though I can predict what’s going to air on the History Channel on January 4th. Next month, History will air Nostradamus: 2012, a two-hour special that will give believers and skeptics a look at the that whole doomsday prophecy and some of the truths and myths surrounding it.

When events arrive, we will not be isolated; we will need each other; we will have to revert back to a community feeling -- pulling together locally. He sees an event that will destroy telecommunications.

Our solar system is due to pass through the ecliptic plane of our galaxy in 2012. That happens every 13,000 years. We don't have any recorded history of what happened last time. Is there a reason we don't have any recorded history?

They said we were going into a period before a pole switch.

Pole Switch

Comet and Asteroid strike

Ice Age

Why is it that the global warming nuts think they can save the earth?

We should just relax and enjoy life while we exist in our time on this world. I think there might be something to the Aztec Calendar. The date does keep popping up....... But I'm waiting to see what happens. I hope it isn't too unpleasant!

I just wrote the following to some of my global-warming chicken little friends:

“Here’s an interesting story on the Earth’s magnetic field and what might be in store a few years hence. A pull from the article:

“The leaks are defying many of scientists’ previous ideas on how the interaction between Earth’s magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: The leaks are in an UNEXPECTED location, let in solar particles in FASTER THAN EXPECTED and the whole interaction works in a manner that is COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT SCIENTISTS HAD THOUGHT.” (emphasis in CAPS added)

What do I know of this stuff? Nothing. However, this one paragraph seems to indicate that scientists who study this concept had no clue either. Nothing wrong with that-science looks for empirical validation of its theories and dutifully changes its theories based on real-world observations. Why is this interesting to me? We’re about to spend a gazillion dollars, and burden our entire economy (or what’s left of it) based on what some scientists tell us will happen in 50 years as a result of climate change. I assume this electromagnetic story involves an area of science where all theories are welcome. Contrast that with global warming where NO competing theories are welcome. Sure give me a warm and comfortable feeling that they know exactly what’s going to happen. Not.”

I’m interested to hear what they say. Not much, I expect.

You need to hypnotize the media with psuedo scientific sounding jargon and say things like “The world has a magnetic fever”

There is a theory that the earth (or our solar system, can't remember which) will intersect the galactic plane and transverse from one side of the Galactic Equator to the other.

This site is a fun read, not sure about the science (if any) behind it. There is also a link on this site to another article that talks about the prior end/beginning of the mayan long-count.

Na. Now adays, just give people LSD and you can make them believe anything. That is a root of the modern liberal psychosis. All the college kids in the 60’s are now leaders in their respective fields. Still broken and psyzophrenic from lucy in the sky with diamonds.

I’m going to put my trust in God. There’s not much else I can do (as He constantly reminds me!)
The 2012 date is just odd, it will make for an interesting year, and in 2013 we’ll all laugh about it! ;)

By 2012 our IRA’s should be growing back to where they were in 1990.
So what happens when the poles reverse? Everything run in wrong direction? Time for electric cars, the more you drive the more your battery is charged. Global warming turns to global cooling, wait that’s already happening.....
I’m so confuesed, I really need algore to help me out here.

[Mr. Bill voice]Ohhhhhh Nooooooooooooooooooooo! [/voice]

Research indicates that IF the current temperature continues as it is, next summer the travel industry will fail because we will all be wearing heavy clothes and staying home because we can’t get out of the snowed in driveway. Businesses will fail because everyone will be slipping and sliding on the icy, snowy streets. With the temperature remaining as low as it is, the heating oil industry won’t have enough oil to provide heat and everyone will freeze. There will be no farm crops, forests will die and the world will be covered with ice and snow. The world will collapse from the weight of the ice and snow.

That is, IF the current temperature remains the same as it is today. Should we all apply for a gazillion $$ grant to study this phenomena and its related economic chaos?

Algore, Mr Algore, pickup the red courtesy phone...
